Mooncusser Cove's heroine is one of my favorites. I like strong
females, and can't think of where I've ever written one who wasn't up
to the challenge of running her own life.
Vesper Highgate-Adair's family were "land pirates." Historical "east
coast" fact: pirates once lured ships into coves on dark nights and
ransacked them. They used big bonfires, and moonless nights worked
best. Thereby, these "land pirates" were have said to "curse the
moon" because its brightness messed with their antics.
Vesper's family was cursed by a "Flying Dutchman-like" pirate
irritated as all get out that he'd been led astray, his crew stripped
of their belongings and his ship burned. Vesper's family, over a few
centuries, leave Mooncusser Cove. Only she stays behind, waiting.
And feeding. Vesper and her family have become "energy vampires"
feeding on the sexual energies of unsuspecting townsfolk.
One of my favorite lines in the book is after Vesper shares a snack
with a UPS driver. "What can Brown do for you" takes on a whole new
meaning :)
Vesper is the itch left behind after a mosquito bite, the dream you
can't quite recall or the memory on your taste buds of your first bite
of Ben and Jerry's Brownie Batter ice-cream. You know "something"
happened, but you just can't remember what it was.
I urge you to take a holiday at Vesper's By the Sea at Mooncusser
Cove. http://www.liquidsilverbooks.com/books/mooncussercove.htm
Enjoy!
