Hockanum Cemetery is located on route 47, near the town line dividing
South Hadley and Hadley. Its precise location is 42.171973 N
-72.360820 W. It was established in 1767. In the files section I
have uploaded 4 pictures of some of the older gravestones. Many of
the more recent (for me recent is post 1830) are simple tablets; while
most of the older ones are either simple or shouldered tablets.
Winged and crowned soul effigies and whorl rosettes are abundant among
the older tablets; although there are a few profile and one that
features a profile (possibly the deceased) with volutes. Tomorrow I
will be posting something a little different, a small selection of
statuary monuments from Union Cemetery in Milwaukee, WI.
