Downtown Crossing Background
Downtown Crossing is the City of New Haven's plan to convert Route 34 from a limited access highway to two urban boulevards from Union Avenue to Park Street and create new development parcels. When completed, the project is intended to enhance the community by reconnecting parts of the City now divided by the highway, and improve traffic flow and safety consistent with the City's Complete Streets policy. Downtown Crossing Phase 1 is under construction and the City and its consultants are in the process designing Phase 2, which will reconnect Orange Street across CT Route 34 and make way for the redevelopment of the former Coliseum site. Please join us for a public meeting that will provide an opportunity to comment on the Downtown Crossing Phase 2 Preliminary Design.
