The EOH and EPI/BIO departments will be co-hosting a seminar on Tuesday, May 5th about a recent CDC outbreak investigation in Nigeria.

Dr. Nguyen is a member of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) and an officer in the United States Public Health Service. He is currently on a 2-year assignment at the Philadelphia Department of Public Health where his duties include disease surveillance, outbreak investigations and epidemiologic research on the varicella vaccine. Most recently, he led a CDC team deployed to Nigeria to investigate an epidemic of acute renal failure that was associated with medication contaminated with diethylene glycol. Attached is a New York Times article about the epidemic. He completed his pediatrics residency at Washington University in St. Louis, and his medical school and undergraduate studies at the University of Rochester.
