Hello DSpace Community,

The DSpace 8.0 Testathon begins today! Thank you to all the DSpace 8.0 developers who’ve gotten us this far, and thank you in advance to all of you who are going to participate in the Testathon!

Testathon Dates: April 8 – April 19, 2024.

We ask that you take a few minutes of your time to help us fully test this new release. We want to ensure we are maintaining the same level of quality that you have come to expect out of a new DSpace release. In addition to testing new features, the Testathon is an opportunity for existing DSpace sites to ensure that the features they care about are working well in 8.0.  If any of those features have bugs, then Testathon is the opportunity to get immediate developer attention on those bugs, to ensure the bugs are fixed prior to the 8.0 final release.

For more information on the Testathon, please visit the DSpace Release 8.0 Testathon page.

New to testing? Want to test with others? We're offering testathon coworking sessions on Zoom at the following dates/times:

  • Tuesday, April 9th, 1 pm ET.
  • Wednesday, April 10th, 1 pm ET.
  • Thursday, April 11th, 1 pm ET
  • Friday, April 12th, 1 pm ET
  • Monday, April 15th, 1 pm ET
  • Tuesday, April 16th, 1 pm ET
  • Wednesday April 17th, 1 pm ET
  • Thursday, April 18th, 1 pm ET

The above sessions will be held at this Zoom link: https://arizona.zoom.us/j/82004507292 (Meeting ID 820 0450 7292) (Passcode: dspace)

Thanks to all of you for performing testing over the last several days! DSpace 8.0 testing continues through the end of this Friday, April 19, 2024. If you still have tests to perform, or haven’t yet had time to test, there is still time to contribute!

A couple of notes:

  1. The “Register New User” bug has been fixed, so if you were waiting to test until you could register and set up a separate testing account, please go ahead and get started! (The default personas of site administrator, community administrator, collection administrator and submitter are still available for your use, as well.)

  1. Interested testing metadata imports and entities types?
    1. Import options are based on Entity Type, not Collection.
    2. You can import from the My DSpace page, by clicking the import button near the drag & drop area.
    3. This is what’s enabled on https://sandbox.dspace.org/home and https://demo.dspace.org/home:

                                                              i.      Regular Items or "Publication" entity - PubMed, arXiv, CrossRef, Scopus, PubMed Europe, CiNii, EPO, DOI, VuFind, NASA/ADS, SciELO, DataCite  (NOTE: Web of Science won't work because they won’t provide a demo license).

                                                             ii.      Journals - Sherpa Journals

iii.      OrgUnit  - Sherpa Publishers, ROR

iv.      Person - ORCID (uses ORCID sandbox site though, not the "real" ORCID)

                                                             v.      (Thanks to Tim Donohue for providing the above information.)

Thanks for your contributions to the testathon, everyone!

Kimberly
