Hi, first time poster, former DS editor. Now using Resolve of course.
I recently acquired from my job an old equipment rack dating back to the DS days (actually back to the 90s). It contains Betacam SP and DVCPro decks and a Blackmagic Studio Videohub router. I'm racking my brain trying to remember how to get the video into my computer to capture, as my old boss was the one who always set this stuff up.
So with the Betacam I believe I can output the Component video and audio through a Blackmagic Mini Analog to SDI converter (also supplied). The DVCPro has a natural SDI output. I can put them into the Blackmagic SDI router. But what's the best way to get the SDI into a computer? I think we used to have video cards with SDI input on our old DS boxes but those are no more. I think I can get a small capture box relatively cheap that will convert the SDI either to HDMI or Thunderbolt to bring into a computer.
The bigger question is the remote deck control which the Blackmagic router will also pass through, but I haven't found any good (or cheap) solutions for getting deck control into the computer. This is just a hobby project.
I also wonder if there's a good bare-bones capture software that I could run on a laptop or something that I could just mount on the rack. I know that Resolve can capture analog, I saw a tutorial video on that, but it might require more power than my laptop can handle.
Any thoughts from the peanut gallery?
