Hi,

A question regarding final assessment templates.  I am a BS graduate route 3 referred candidate sitting in session 2 2011.  Having recently sent off my documents I have realised I may not have completed template 7 correctly, I have only recorded my referred competencies, having read my referal report again I should have recorded all competencies, is there anything I can do?

Thanks for the forum!

Dear Toddy2

Hi there....  couple of things to consider...

1.  If you were referred LESS THAN 3 years ago then you ONLY need to write up the competencies your were specifically referred against and as noted in your referral report.  This also assumes you have sent in your previous referral report, previous templates from your last sitting and template 8, all as detailed in Template 2 of the RICS Final Assessment Templates (Excel workbook) when you select that you are a referred candidate in the dropdown box, top right of template 2.

2. If you were referred MORE THAN 3 years ago then you must complete Template 7 in its entirety covering all competencies.  Your referral report is then void and not submitted but you must still submit previous documentation.  All as detailed in template 2 as noted above.

If it is unclear then contact RICS Membership Operations +44 (0)207 222 7000 and ask them directly to discuss this with you.  I would do this anyway as better to be safe than sorry.

After investigation, if you have missed the relevant information from your submissions then that is another issue and I would advise the following:

A.  Contact RICS and ask them if you can resubmit the documents... I am guessing this will be denied.

B.  If A above does not work then take a full copy of your submission templates 7 and 8 (3 copies nicely bound) to the assessment with you and before you start your presentation mention to the assessors the omission and would they like a copy of your revised template 7 and 8.  I always think it is better to admit errors rather than hope they won't see it!

Other considerations

Recording the Levels - My view is that if you are referred against a Level 3 competency and the panel reports in the referral report that you HAVE achieved up to Level 2, you should write up each Level for the referred competency again....

Why?

Well if referred at Level 3 and you wish to demonstrate more cases of you offering advice and guidance then surely you need to undertake more experience with will then Impact on both Level 2 and Level 3.  And it would not be unfair to assume that of you are referred against a competency then you will go back and check or update your learning which clearly impacts on Level 1.

So if referred against any competency at whatever the level I would advise writing up the competency again in its entirety (to the minimum required level) and demonstrating that you have taken not, paid attention to the referral and professionally demonstrate you have covered all the bases ready for your next assessment.

I hope this makes sense

Kind regards

Jon
