Thanks for letting me join your group. I'll be right up front right
off the bat and tell you I'm here mainly to pick some brains. I'm
sorry I won't have much to contribute, at least not right away. I do
have a specific question that I hope someone can help me with.
In line with the subject of robotics, I am trying to free my new
minlathe from the tedious tyranny of gearing as a means of driving the
lead screw. I want to couple a small electric motor to the lead screw.
I also want a controller of some kind that will allow me to vary the
speed of the motor and to reverse and brake it. Torque need only be
few inch-pounds, maybe around 5 or 6, and max RPMs less than 100 or so.
Can someone help me navigate through the maze and myriad of motors and
controllers I find on the 'Net? If so, I may be able to reciprocate by
doing some free lathe and mill work on various small parts for your
projects. I might even be tempted to enter the field myself.
Thanks in advance.
Hopefully,
Gene
