Hi all,
In preparation for the admin council planning and visioning meeting
this coming Saturday, I am putting together a list of events we'd like
to do with the library ministry. Here's what I've come up with. Please
feel free to comment or add to as you see fit. I'm open to any
suggestions, especially since I will be relying on many of you for
helping to plan and pull off these events.
Children and Youth Book Donation Fair
* the Plan: Pre-purchase or get from Cokesbury on deposit several
books that we would like to add to our children and youth collections.
Put them on display with prices so that patrons can buy the books for
the collection. Offer the opportunity to dedicate the book in memory
or honor of someone or some special occasion (birth of a child,
child's birthday, favorite grandparent, mentor, etc.). Whatever
doesn't get purchased will either be paid for out of the library's
acquisitions budget or returned to the store.
* April 27, 2008? I think this would work best in conjunction with a
4th Sunday lunch so that people can peruse at leisure before, during,
and after lunch. I would also prefer it to be in the spring, before
people disburse for summer.
Annual Used Book Sale
* Same thing we've done for the last two years. Could have it during
June or July, or both.
* Alternative suggestion: hold it more than once a year--twice a year,
every quarter? Would be easier to do this once we have a new bookcart
that we can wheel around the church better!
Used Bible Drive
* We have two boxes of used bibles ready to donate to a worthy cause.
I'm in the process of finding a place to send them, hoping it can be a
local organization. My first lead is to send them to Metro State
Prison, who was asking for used bibles a few months ago.
* Would like to solicit additional donations from the congregation, as
it would be a good promotion for our active library ministry.
* Depending on how long it takes me to find a place to send the
bibles, we could do this as early as February.
Synopsis:
February - used bible drive
April - Children and Youth Book Donation Fair
June/July - annual used book sale
As I said before, any and all comments and suggestions are welcome.
Also, if anyone has an idea for a different type of event or promotion
that we might want to schedule instead of one of these, or something
to think about for the Fall, please voice it here.
Thanks for your thoughts and input,
Myka
