* Changed "Recalls" to "Recalls and Reserves" adding that items may be
reserved up to one week for those who request them in advance by phone
or e-mail. This is to go with the new links ("Request this book") that
have been added to book reviews on the blog as well as individual item
records in the online catalog.
* Changed open hours to 9:45-11:00 am instead of 9:45 to 15 minutes
after worship. I often do not have time to go back to the library
after worship except to make sure the door is locked. We can change
this back later when we have volunteers to staff that time and/or when
service is demanded for that time.
I'll keep the discussion on the policy open for about a week,
depending on responses. After that, I'll make the final revisions and
post the policy to the church website.

Janie, and others,
I don't know what type of problem you could have encountered. It could
be that you haven't set up a profile with Google yet? I haven't
experienced that error before - maybe if someone else does we could
help each other?
Regarding your question about longterm visitors, I've kinda lumped
them into the category of "affiliate members". Affiliate membership
doesn't have to be officially recognized by the church, in fact, I
don't think it is with Darryl's or any of the other non-members but
faithful attendees. I could be wrong about that, though. Many of the
Candler folks that are on ordination track are prohibited from joining
the church, so they are one group I consider "affiliate members." As
far as determining when one actually becomes an "affiliate member,"
I'm not sure how to determine that. Basically, I'm not going to stop
someone from checking out a book. If they are comfortable checking out
a book and using the library, then they've probably been visiting long
enough.
Any other thoughts?

I had clicked on the "send a message to this group" and it gave a new message area but when I pressed "send" it gave me a very long explanation why I could not do it. It is probably something about my computer. Anyway, I can read the messages at least because I can go there. The ciruclation policy looks fine except under the "who" part it does not list "longterm visitors" which is a large number of folks who have been attending for a while. Can they check out books? Tonight's top picks. What will you watch tonight? Preview the hottest shows on Yahoo! TV.
This is also a good time to mention that Peter got me set up with a
sign-in for the new website, so I've been able to get a new library
page loaded to the website. It's the last link on the site areas menu.
When you click on "William D. Thomson Library," the link for the
circulation policy will appear below it.
Any other thoughts and comments are always welcome.
