On Monday night, volunteers from Save Our Schools Hawaii and their supporters who elected to stay in Governor Lingle's office past the official closing time were cited. Among these cited were at least 3 UH students, two of them for the second time, which puts them at risk for arrest. They are very willing to be arrested for this cause (getting rid of furlough Fridays & getting the Governor to lead in the process).
However, our continuous, 6 day long vigil/sit-in desperately needs volunteers to help staff tomorrow's visit to the Governor's office. The office opens at 7:45 a.m. and closes at 4:30. If you are interested in staying past office hours, or perhaps even overnight, we welcome your participation.
Public parking can be found underneath the Capitol Building (bring lots of quarters). From Vineyard, take Punchbowl makai, then take second right (Miller Street), which looks like a driveway (and is), following down into the underground lot. Park at metered parking only, take glass doors in, elevator to the 5th floor. Governor's office has a sign on it (the other one is Lt. Governor's).
PLEASE email me directly as soon as you can (reply to this email) if you can volunteer any of your time tomorrow (Tuesday). I am calendaring the volunteers to make sure there adequate coverage.
AND this is a fun way to meet similarly minded, politically involved, and committed people. However, if you want to work, there is wireless.
Thank you,
Vernadette Gonzalez
