Hi Everyone,

After President Greenwood's refusal to accept the right of workers to collectively bargain in Hawai'i, we must take action!

Her announcement that the UH Administration will impose their "Last, Best, Final Offer" on UH faculty (the same one that had been roundly rejected by faculty) is a serious threat not just to our standards of living, our working conditions and the quality of education at UH, it is a serious threat to the right to collectively bargain and the sanctity of any negotiated contract between workers and employers.

Her actions are a serious threat not just for UHPA members but for all other unionized workers (and therefore all workers whose hopes for improved living and working conditions lie, in part, in their ability to unionize).

I am sure that the other public sector unions will support UHPA members in our fight against unilateral action on the part of the UH Administration, so we should continue to make sure that students, faculty, and staff at UH are included in any response to Greenwood and her administration.

I suggest we meet the first week of classes when all of us are back (and our campuses are re-opened!).

By that time, we should have more information from UHPA regarding its response and the actions recommended by it's Faculty Representatives, Collective Bargaining team and Board of Directors.

I suggest we meet on Wednesday, January 12 at 2PM at a room in Hawaiian Studies (to be determined) to discuss our response.

Cheers,
Nandita

I teach until 3p on Wednesday.  A meeting is a good idea.

Thanks, Carrie, for catching the mistake!
