Hi DHN
I lead our futures portfolio here at IFRC and have a query on availability of volunteers to assist with a project we are working on
We are leading the process for the development of our next 10 year strategy, utilising a futures and foresight methodology.
What we are doing is collecting multiple points of data (both quantitative and qualitative) on what future trends/issues our global network feel are important and what the implications are going to be. The data will be obtained via:
· Face to face consultation workshops
· Interviews
· Research papers
· Horizon scans
We will digitise some of the ways we collect the data (a workshop reporting tool, an app for interviews etc) but what we would like to achieve is to be able to visualise in a compelling way – that can take people on a journey – how different countries/regions are talking about future issues:
· What issues are being highlighted as important to some countries versus others
· What are some of the nuanced differences (how Pacific might talk about climate change versus how MENA might talk about it)
· How some of the issues are connected to each other (identifying hot pockets of similar topics for example)
· Mapping of all the different issues once we’ve put a systems analysis on it
· Progression of issues that are increasingly becoming important over time (if our research and scanning is picking up a heated issue around geo’engineering over the space of 6 months as an example)
It is to be published on the specific website we are building and is aimed at a communications perspective
Internally we don’t have the skill sets around data visualisation in this manner, and am wondering if this might be something your network might have and if there might be volunteers that could assist? Or even if this is something that you guys do….
Look forward to hearing back
Cheers
Aarathi Krishnan
