Hello everyone,

As you will see below, we received a request about 10 days ago related to support in some research (and thus was not forwarded through as an urgent activation...or put on Loomio).

If anyone has members who might be interested in this research, do have them reach out to Hafidha directly hafidha....@gmail.com

I suspect that this research is much more relevant for some members than others :-)

Cheers,
Andrej

Hi Hafidha,

We saw your activation request form submission. However, it seems to be more of a request to support research. Is that correct?

Andrej

In a catastrophic event situation, pre and post-disaster satellite images from affected areas must be rapidly analyzed to guide rescue teams on the ground in their damage assessment, the extent of damaged areas, best location of refugee camps, effective access roads, etc. Images must be well chosen to allow the detection of objects of interest in the chosen application.

Our research interest focuses on the exploitation of ontologies in geographic object-based image analysis in the case of major disasters," pre and post-disaster very high resolution multispectral satellite imagery "The world is facing a growing number of natural and manmade disasters such as flood, earthquake, and forest fire. This situation prompted various organizations to make more effort in the disaster management field to save more lives.

With the advent of recent sensors with very high spatial resolution, the number of images held by the satellite image bases has increased significantly, consequently, they become more available for various educational and research organizations. The integration of satellite images and geographic information can provide important disaster-related knowledge, smooth the progress of the relief operations, and guide teams on the ground in their damage assessment.
