Dear DHN-ers,

Another Irma-related activation request. This one by the US Coast Guard.  Posted into Loomio: https://www.loomio.org/d/boZPVOr0

Text is pasted below for your interest.

1) Since it is a similar request to Harvey, will HR, SBTF and TWB be able to work on this again?

2) Any other teams willing to support

3) HR/SBTF/TWB: any other DHN members you would have liked to have had support from on Harvey?

Request:
08/09/2017 22:20:19 US Coast Guard ejtw...@gmail.com

Looking to activate a response as Hurricane Irma is making landfall in Florida. We are looking for data about those in distress and in need of rescue. During Hurricane Harvey, we activated a response and the vast majority of the data's value came from using it on a strategic level. The biggest question the data was used was "Where are people in need of rescue?".

I anticipate the data being used in a similar way for this activation. From the perspective of the Coast Guard, we want data primarily in the US, however we recognize that the majority of the damage will probably occur in nations like Haiti and other island nations. If we open up the search area, then I would recommend opening the data up to other agencies (hence why APAN would be ideal).

In the past, privacy has been a concern. This is something to note. Having said that, there are a couple officers throughout the Coast Guard I would like to give direct access to the information. They are with Coast Guard National Command Center and the Commandant's Briefing Team. Requesting geolocation and social media combing as the primary support. Data entry should be into APAN and Google Drive (if Drive is redundant, then there is no need to continue with it).

I would ideally like it in two fashions:
1) A running excel spreadsheet similar to Harvey
2) Enter the data into an APAN page so that other agencies can have access to the information.

I need access to the lat and long information in the form of an excel file in order to create a couple products for my chain of command.

Cheers,

Andrej

I have commented in the Loomio that SBTF is ready to take this on, if some stuff are sorted that did not work so smooth during Harvey.

It has to do with avoiding duplicate efforts, different setups when multiple teams work on the same task…

Waiting for others to comment.

Best,

Per
