I recieved a phone call ~a week ago & have been so busy, I failed to
post.
****DET-TRAC, LAPS & ABC members, Scout troops & any other
volunteers****
We still have an obligation to fulfill the remaining volunteer hours
for the phase III expansion project at the Kit McConnico Trail, which
included the bridge & 2+ miles of trail, including all of the west
loop.
At the last count I received, we have 50 man hours of volunteer
work to complete, in order to fulfill our part of the match toward
grant monies applied for by the City of Lufkin. I'm sure they would
LOVE to close the books on this before the end of 2010. Please try to
clear your schedules, the morning of Saturday, November, 27th.
Items to be addressed:
1: Felled tree removal on West Loop. lower section. Chain saws
required/experienced volunteers. 2 groups of 2~3 volunteers.
2: Trimming back of overgrowth; groups of three volunteers per each
section. Please bring lopers, hand-pruners & rakes.
3: Bench work- Bench-cutting is still needed on some of the far-
section (return-loop) of the west loop. 2~3 groups of 2~3 volunteers.
Pulaski's & Mcloud's provided. Optional tools to bring: Steel rakes,
hoes & similar tools.
4: Armoring: Deliver aggregate to locations where trail can be
hardened during wet season. Not necessary to spread material, unless
ground is wet enough to tamp-in aggregate. Bring Wheelbarrow, Wagon,
or similar. 2 volunteers per.
5: Signage: Complete placement of all signage related to nature-aspect
of trail. Materials to be ordered by DET-TRAC. Correct/replace all
directional signage placed in conflict to legend.
6: Legend Kiosk: Update Kiosk legend to reflect the final trail
expansion.

There are plenty of projects to complete, easily completing our
obligation. If you use this trail, take ownership/responsibility for
it. It is your trail.
John
