Hello everyone,

I hope everyone is staying hydrated as we weather this heavy heat. Wishing you all the best and godspeed to our respective work.

I'm writing to remind us that this Friday, 8/1, at 10 AM, we will convene via Zoom for our August coalition meeting. We've got lots of exciting news on our path to host a Community Wealth Building Day this October, featuring a showcase of DC's coops and a session for folks to come together to build the strength of the field.

Budget and Programing Committees have met and will bring up some asks and updates on our intentions for the event on Friday. We will need support in the month of August to develop our official agenda for the event, so even if you can't make it on Friday, let me know if you are interested or curious about supporting that work.

Lastly, there will be time as well for folks to share any events or news from their projects with members of the coalition too. We always want to be collaborating and breaking down silos if possible, so feel free.

Thanks yall. I look forward to seeing you on Friday. And let me know if you can't find the calendar invite or Zoom link or if you have any questions.

Best,

Abi

Hello again folks!

Thank you everyone that was able to join the coalition call today. I deeply appreciate your contributions and commitment to move the work forward.

Here is a brief summary of our next steps around our Community Wealth Building Day planning:
  • Budget and Venue Committees: Amanda and BA will touch base to discuss venue options and their impact on the budget. Folks will continue to reach out to 501c3s to anchor the event by receiving financial contributions and/or reserving space for us.We will have a venue decided and a budget proposed by our next coalition meeting in September at the latest. Please let me know if you would like to support in the decision making process about venue or budget, outreach to c3s, or in drafting outreach language about the event
  • Programing and Partnerships Committee: We have decided to split into two groups to focus on planning the Saturday work session and the Sunday Coop Fair respectively. We will all convene at our work session this month, Monday, August 11th at 6 PM at MLK Library, Conference Room 401-A, and split into groups to draft the two agendas. We will review and approve the agendas at our next coalition meeting on September 5th. Please join us at MLK Library on the 11th if you would like to help in the planning of either day!
  • Outreach: We began listing outreach targets for either day of the event. For the Saturday Work Session, we should consider folks who are 1) coop members who are specifically excited or willing to commit to building the power of the coop ecosystem, 2) supporters of the coop network, like technical assistance providers, organizers, foundations, etc. 3) folks who could be good facilitators or contributors to programming. For the Sunday Coop Fair, we should consider folks who are 1) technical assistance providers who can share their services with the coops in attendance, 2) non-profits who could learn from engaging with the coop ecosystem 3) folks with means of reaching the general public (orgs with bases, media outlets maybe, etc.). Note that BCI will be supporting us substantially in recruiting coops to actually present themselves at the fair. Please fill out this spreadsheet with contacts that you think we should reach out to and be as detailed as possible in filling out the various columns, but it is ok if you don't have all of the information right now. Try to make your contributions before our work session on the 11th, and I will remind us to do so next week as well.
Thanks again everyone! I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to connecting with you soon.

Hi folks!

Here is a reminder to please add folks to this outreach spreadsheet for the Community Wealth Building Day. Would love to have a well-populated list by like mid-next week so we can start delegating who is reaching out to whom.

Additionally, I'm looking forward to our work session on Monday at MLK Library at 6 PM. Folks committed to agenda planning should try hard to make it! Our aim will be to complete the bulk of our agenda planning work there.

Let me know if you are planning to join us.

Thanks yall. I hope we're having a good week
Thanks again everyone! I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to connecting with you soon.
