Hello everyone!
I hope you're having a good week and looking forward to a bright weekend. Thank you so much to those who were able to join us at MLK Library for our Work Session this week. It was an incredibly productive time and I'm grateful to all who contributed.
We have a few next steps to look out for!
Regarding our Community Wealth Building Day(s), we have tentative dates confirmed! We are formally proposing to have our event the weekend of October 25th and 26th. Saturday will feature the session where coop members and supporters will collaborate, skill build, and build power together, while Sunday will feature the coop showcase and celebration.
To prepare for the event in the meantime, we are organizing teams to coordinate the following:
- Budget and Fundraising - will identify a fiscal sponsor then begin fundraising and create a budget
- Program and Partnership - will draft a program/agenda for both days of the event and present for feedback at August coalition meeting
- Outreach and Comms - will create a sign up form, graphics, and update the website to start outreach in mid-August
If you are willing and able to be a part of any of these teams, please let me know! We already have a few volunteers for each, and Sam, myself, and other coalition members will be recruiting folks over the next week. This incredible event can only happen through our collective effort and input. We need your support, and that is how we win.
In other news, on Monday we discussed the curriculum about community wealth building which we plan to create with students from Georgetown's Education, Inquiry, and Justice (EDIJ) program this Fall. If you are interested in working with students to develop a curriculum about cooperative economics and redefining wealth building that we will use in our public education efforts, please respond to this email.
We are confirming with Georgetown that we can do this. It would entail educating and advising the students about once a week through their Fall semester. This would not only give us a chance to connect with young people in our work, but would also give us a powerful tool to use in our education and power building efforts down the line.
And that is all folks! Things are moving, which brings me a lot of joy and excitement. Again, this would not be possible without contributions from everyone and we deeply appreciate it.
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions. Wishing you all the best,
Abi
