Thank you to everyone who was able to make it to the Byway meeting
last Thursday in Contoocook.
For anyone who wasn't there, here is a quick recap:
1. The final Corridor Management Plan and appendices are available at:
http://www.cnhrpc.org/transportation/Currier_Ives.html
2. The next step is to request each town's Board of Selectmen to adopt
the CMP through a Resolution of Support. I will be sending draft
resolution text to each town office and/or Byway Committee members. I
will also provide a hard copy, bound version of the CMP to each town.
3. Some committee members also requested that I make the PowerPoint
presentation from the meeting available. It is available in .pdf
format: http://www.cnhrpc.org/transportation/documents/Currier_and_Ives/CurrierandIvesCMP_PowerPointPresentation.pdf.
If you want the actual .ppt version, just let me know.
4. We are moving ahead with forming a permanent Scenic Byway Council.
Folks who are interested should contact their Board of Selectmen and
request to be appointed sometime before March 31, 2010. I will send a
reminder to each town after Town Meeting requesting the names and
contact info for all appointees.
5. The National Scenic Byways Program opened up the 2010 funding
application cycle just last week. The deadline to submit applications
to NHDOT is April 2nd. The Committee decided that, due to timing and
organizational issues, we would wait until next year's funding cycle
to apply for federal funds. This means that the Letter of Intent each
town was asked to sign back in November will be withdrawn.
6. A professor at New England College in Henniker is proposing a new
course for the Fall 2010 semester on civic engagement, focusing on
involvement with the Currier and Ives Scenic Byway. Once our Byway
Council is formed, this may be a wonderful opportunity to have
students work on communications materials, resource inventories, or
other projects to begin implementing our plan.
It has been a pleasure to work with all of you during the course of
the planning process over the past year. Thank you very much for your
time and energy. I look forward to participating in the Byway Council
later this year.
As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
All the best,
Vanessa Bittermann
