Dear members of BikeCulverCity previously named The Culver City Bicycle Coalition,
According to our chapter rules of governance, we are required to have a steering committee with a minimum of three members to conduct the chapter’s business and promote our mission. Essentially, a Steering committee is the “board” of the chapter that decides on the priorities or order of business of an organization and manages the general course of the Chapters operations. To better understand different governance terms, I've also enclosed a glossary created by HQ.
We are determined to build momentum as a grassroots advocacy organization for the community. In order for us to succeed, we need to develop a strong steering committee that is diverse, open to new ideas, and is responsive to the needs of the chapter, the chapters members and the Culver City community. Currently, our steering committee doesn’t have the minimum number of members and technically, we cannot make decisions as a chapter without a quorum of the steering committee. HQ will attend meetings and okay decisions until we fill the vacant positions on the steering committee so that we can continue with our positive momentum and chapter growth.
Growing our chapter requires growing our steering committee, and we'd like to increase our steering committee, in order to have more voices as part of our decision making processes. We hope that this new, larger steering committee will bring diverse perspectives and talents to our chapter leadership and set the course for our chapter moving forward.
This is your call to action! If you would like to be a part of a dynamic team pushing for a more bike-friendly Culver City, please attend our upcoming BikeCulverCity Public Meeting, April 12, 2016 from 6:30pm – 8pm at Pitfire Pizza 12924 W Washington Blvd, Los Angeles, CA. Even if you can't make the April 12, meeting, if you'd like to be considered for candidacy, please use the following online candidate questionnaire for consideration. A paper candidate questionnaire will also be available to fill out at our April 12, 2016 Meeting.

We will share the candidate statements we've received a week before the May 10th meeting. On May 10, 2016 we'll allow each candidate to speak for up to 3 mins and have an election to vote in 3 steering Committee members whereby all chapter members present will be eligible to vote.
On April 12, 2016 all chapter decisions will be made by all members present with HQ approving decisions reached by consensus.
