Thanks to those who made it it our planning meeting, 9/22. We accomplished a lot:

1. Rudy Galindo from Culver City Public Works joined us for updates on several projects, including a Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee. The City is forming a BPAC to help advice the City on several upcoming  projects. They will be seeking approval from the City's Sustainability subcommittee in the coming weeks and then open the application process. The BPAC will be made up of approximately 8 people of all types from the community. The CCBC was asked to help direct interested cyclists to apply. Stay tuned for application details. For starters, the BPAC will be actively involved in the following:
a. Washington Blvd. The City is funding a feasibility study of improvements on the the "Metro Connection" (Washington Blvd., from Expo to Downtown CC)
b. Likewise, the City is also funding a feasibility study for Bike Share in CC
c. The City has been awarded (technically recommended for funding) a grant to improve the neighborhood around La Ballona Elementary, Elenda (including a 2 way cycle track)

2. Officers. As explained earlier, the CCBC is making a concerted effort to add structure become better organized, in part because it's part of the requirements of being a local chapter of LACBC. But also it will help us grow and flourish. Positions to be filled are: President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Members who would like to be considered for positions include:
Mark Malare, VP
Julie Mendel, Secretary
Eric Weinstein, Treasurer

Because of the meeting's conflict with Yom Kippur, it was requested a vote be postponed to a later date so others unable to make the meeting could either be considered for a position or vote. As such it was agreed the follow up meeting will be Tuesday, September 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Culver Hotel. If you are interested in a position or would like to meet the candidates, please make a point to be there.

3. Upcoming Events. A common sentiment raised by Patrick and others was to host more CCBC rides and if there was ride marshal training available. Timing for this is good as Jim reminded the group that as part of an earlier agreement with the Culver City Safe Routes to School Program, the CCBC was to assist in planning and leading family and/or community rides. Also, turns out LACBC is hosting a ride marshal training in downtown LA on October 3. Anyone interested in being trained as a ride marshal should attend.

From LACBC:

If you're looking to become a Ride Marshal for the many rides we host throughout the year, come to our orientation on Saturday, October 3rd downstairs at LACBC Headquarters. The next day, we will also be hosting a Sunday Funday ride where you can put your new ride marshal skills to use.
WHEN: October 03, 2015 at 10:30am - 12:30pm
WHERE: LACBC, 634 S Spring St., Edison Room, Los Angeles, CA 90066
Use link to RSVP
Additionally, the Culver City Safe Routes to SchoolProgram is planning a family ride on 11/15 and will be looking for ride marshals. IUf interested, please reply to this e-mail.

Michele and Julie agreed to co-chair a  ride exploration and planning committee, so stay tuned for some great events!

4. Bike Valet Patrick also raised the notion of purchasing a set of bike valet racks and make a concerted effort to offer this service, potentially for pay, to community groups interested in adding bike valet to their events. Patrick agreed to research racks and storage options. If anyone has space available to store as many as 4 racks (collapsed they are approximately 4' x 3" x 3"), please let us know. Thank you!

5. Operation Firelfy. This awesome event distributes free bike lights to those who need them. There was interest in hosting one (should LACBC continue the program) and so we may be looking for a volunteer coordinator. If interested in helping out, reply to this e-mail Thank you.

Thank you for your support. See you Tuesday!

A more detailed update of last night's meeting will be forthcoming, but wanted to announce that we had a great meeting last night. CCBC has taken a step forward and elected officers. Congratulations and thank you to Wayne Howard (Chairman), Julie Mendel (Secretary) and Eric Weinstein (Treasurer). Looking forward to the great activities being planned and a deeper level of involvement of all things bike in Culver City.

And a big shout out to Seth Horowitz at the Culver Hotel for providing such a luxurious setting.
