I do enjoy feeding my 1 male local crow but now a Seagull has figured out the peanuts and the crows are trying to tell him/her to leave.

Any recommendation on how I could only feed the crows vs seagulls.

I removed the food for now and the seagull just sits 10 feet from me outside my widow looking in.

Keep feeding the crows. Allow them to sort it out amounts themselves? Might be interesting to watch? You might learn more about bird behaviours from observing how they solve this problem  for themselves?  We can place the food in nature but can we really expect to control who eats it?

I’m really curious to know why you aren’t interested in observing the seagull? Or why the crows vs seagull isn’t a fascinating bird social experiment. I’d have to put my entire life on hold as I would get way too invested in it all. 😆😅 Sorry I’m not being much help…I’ll go now….

Very best wishes

Chances are the gull will eventually leave; I don't know much about them but do know that many of them are migratory. Otherwise it's been my experience that crows will remember a food source and revisit it occasionally for months afterwards, which isn't what I've ever seen with gulls.

Good luck, and yes do keep us posted!

Josh,
Is it a similar experience with Blue Jays?

I don’t mind the Starling Jays we have in the Seattle area.  It’s normally a battle between the crows and jays. First come first serve.  The crows and jays always grab two and fly off and then return when the food is gone.  If they come to my railing and look at me, I’ll provide more food.

That's been my experience; even worse, sometimes the crows figure out that the jays (or squirrels) will just cache the spare nuts, and watch and wait. Then they just dig up the cache and ignore the box. Things often change, though!
