The stage 1 and 2 videos are great!  Thanks so much for sharing.  Did any crows ever participate in Stage 2 or were the Jays the only ones to figure it out?  Our crows didn't ever get to stage 1, they were very suspicious of the box, but the Stellar Jays (well one Jay) breezed through Stage 1 and 2, and then for Stage 3 figured out that she had to get the quarter off the lid, but didn't make the connection that the quarter only opened the box if she put it into one of the slots vs throwing it off the lid.

I've seen similar situations before, often when Crows are being "crowded out" by jays - who tended to cache nearby in places the Crows could raid whenever they liked. Have you seen anything similar, and/or do you think a different food item would change the dynamic?

Dear Anne and Josh,
The crows are very skittish and get scared easily. They occasionally manage to open the slide, but the noise and motion scares the hell out of them. At this very moment (stage 3 training) the Jays have lost their interest in the Crowbox. Coins are placed on the lid but they did not find out (also not by accident) what to do. Haven’t seen the Jays for a couple of days now. Switching from stage 3 to 2 and vice versa might get them interested again. I will try the coming days.

Sounds like a good plan; I've seen plenty of crow behavior vacillate, possibly due to external factors (a new dog in the neighborhood, or who knows what else.) Moving back a stage for a while might help - please keep us posted!
