Help troubleshooting: Arduino is having issues

Hi all, I'm currently building my crow box. I got the CrOS installed on my Arduino Uno, wired the bread board and sled, got everything connected and plugged the power source in - but nothing happened. I had no activity from my servo.

I can tell the power source is working because lights appear on my Arduino, but it was very quickly overheating. I went through some Arduino forums and I think my chip may be shot because the IDE is no longer recognizing the chip (Tools > Port is no longer an option that appears), even though it worked fine before. I tried a different cable, pushed the reset button twice, turned my computer off and on, and still no luck.

I have another Arduino Uno, but before I try it again, I want to make sure I've got everything wired right. From what I read, the chip may have gotten overloaded and/or something isn't wired correctly but I followed the video and wiring chart 100% so I'm not sure what's going on. :(

Any help is greatly appreciated!

If you are still working on this, please email me directly with photos attached of your bread board and other wiring and I will take a look. 

I would double check your wiring AGAIN, make sure you got a 5 volt 2 amp (5V2A) power supply, and you make sure to pay attention to how to center pin is wired.  I think center positive is most common...

Hi MK,

Thanks for your reply! It made me investigate my power supply more closely and I think it was faulty and causing the board to overheat which triggered the wipe. I ordered a new supply and it worked perfectly when I tried it with the new board so now I'm good to go.

I initially had it setup close to my house so I could quickly refill it every day and use one of my house camera to trigger alerts for me. 

I just moved it to the back yard next to my shed. I have literally seen crows right where it is at in the photo below. When it was next to my house, nothing was getting the food. Not even squirrels. I think there are plenty of vantage points for them. 

I have been creating a long trail from my shed to the house of peanuts and cheetos, but I think other critters are getting to it before the crows. It is possible the crows were getting some and I just didn't see it, but nothing got the food on top of the crowbox. 

I see at least one crow most days walking to the bus stop in the morning. I can tell they are very skittish. They fly away when I get anywhere near the powerlines they're on at the time. 

There was one instance early on where I saw several in my backyard so I walked out there and threw peanuts. They flew away after I walked out my backdoor. Not even sure they saw the peanuts. 

Any feedback is much appreciated, especially with my setup.

Sounds like the crows in your area are pretty xenophobic, so it may take a while before they get really comfortable. Have you experimented with other types of food, like peanuts in the shell? (Or is that what you're using?) As ever with Corvids, it's often a lengthy process to get them comfortable being in your location. 

Otherwise I think you were wise to move the box away from the house, especially if you have a skittish population. Crows are clumsy fliers (relatively speaking) so they like some clearance, IMHO.
