Dear Greater Boston Ultimate Frisbee players:

The long Winter is almost over and Spring will be here before you know it (NOTE: Daylight Savings time starts this weekend). And with Spring comes ULTIMATE! We at the Boston Ultimate Disc Alliance (BUDA) are already preparing for the BUDA 2009 Spring Hat League. To make this season the best ever, we’ve made some changes to how the BUDA Spring Hat League will be run and are looking for volunteers to help the league run smoothly. This eMail is full of important information, so please make sure to read the entire eMail.

REGISTRATION:
Online registration (http://www.buda.org) begins at 5pm on Monday, March 9, 2009. Teams fill quickly! Last year spots for men were filled by 9pm the day registration opened and for women two days later.

In order to clear up any confusion about how the registration process works, below are a few tips that should help you increase the odds that you get a spot on a BUDA Spring Hat Team (Note: we CANNOT and DO NOT ever guarantee anyone a spot on a team, the ability to play in the league, with the person they register to play with, or the schedule that they prefer):

1. If you have not created a BUDA “Player’s Page,” you must have created a “Player’s Page” on the BUDA.org website to register for the league, do so before registration opens to expedite the registration process.

2. Register as close to 5pm as possible.

3. Pay the registration fee through PayPal (no “PayPal Account” required, they process Credit Card payments for BUDA) immediately upon registration. Players who have not paid the registration fee when teams are created (typically 1-2 weeks after registration opens) will not be assigned to a team — no exceptions, sorry.

4. Fax (or mail) your BUDA 2009 Waiver (available from your “Player’s Page”) IN ADVANCE of registration (NOTE: January, February and March are the BEST months to submit your annual BUDA waiver) or immediately after you register. Check your “Player’s Page” to make sure the waiver has been processed (please be patient this could take up to one week). You will not be assigned to a team if you do not have a waiver on file with BUDA when teams are made — no exceptions, sorry.

5. Make sure you answer the, "Are there any days you will not be able to attend games?" if there are any days or times you will be unable to attend games. We try to honor these during the team creation process. If a request is made after teams are put together, it is less likely that we can honor the request.

6. Please consider NOT REQUESTING to play with another person, as this can complicate the registration process. For example: if A and B request to play with each other and both want to play at the Jamaica Plain fields and B registers late and doesn’t make it into the Jamaica Plain division both A and B could end up playing in the Waltham fields division.

CHANGES TO REGISTRATION PROCESS:
In order to maintain the spirit of the hat league system, and to alleviate some of the technical difficulties we have had in the past, this Spring people will only be able to request to play with ONE (1) other person when registering.

VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers run BUDA. Without them, we have no league. The more volunteers we have the more smoothly the league operates and the more fun we can have (many heads are better than one). In particular, we’re looking for people who are interested designing league shirts and the spirit disc, captaining, running the tournaments, overseeing league spirit, answering player questions, sending out weekly league updates, planning the spring hat league party, and any other enthusiastic people with any ideas on how to improve BUDA and player’s experiences in BUDA. If you have any interest in helping the BUDA spring league please send an email to the address provided at www.buda.org for more information. Perks — free food at the team creation meeting, a well run league, hundreds of grateful players, and other TBD benefits/perks and/or prizes.

Should you have any questions, please refer to www.buda.org

Thank you and we’ll see you on the fields this spring!
