Mapping Surnames over time

I am trying to map surnames of my ancestors over time.

What I did was import locations with labels like

Gerber 1831

Gerber 1867

Gerber 1901

Two questions/issues

1) Can I somehow have it draw a line between these labels? note I have many surnames not just Gerber.

2) Many of the names/years are for the same location (like Minneapolis MN). The markers appear on top of each other and you can't really tell there are many as they are hidden behind each other. Is there way way to get them to fan out?
