We need to follow the promptings and recognize the needs of others as we fulfill our responsibilities in our callings, as members of the Church, and especially as followers of Jesus Christ. When we feel like we should do something or see a need, don't wait or put it on your to-do list. Do it now! The last conversation I had with Amber Shepard was when we were talking about planning a family night at their house for Cinco de Mayo to eat, have the kids play, and make salsa. Amber loved salsa and was the recipient of many jars, from Shari, of various recipes that I would make. We had talked a few times in the winter about teaching her and Justin how to make the recipe, but was waiting until the tomatoes were better towards the summer. One of the last things we said was, "we keep talking about planning this, but we just need to do it." It was planned but then later cancelled due to schedule.
So, don't just talk about what we need or should do, do it now and not later! Promptings are not to be put on a to-do list, to be ignored, or second guessed. We are here to be instruments in the hands of God. We are called in various ways to love, serve, share, and help our Heavenly Father's children. When we pray for individuals to be blessed, I feel at times that He answers by asking us or prompting us, and at times in my experience that still small voice becomes like a yelling whisper, to bless whomever with what He has given us.
There are so many of us that have expressed concern and offered to help in some way. One last thought is one good way to help and honor Amber is to help others. To donate blood as she was determined to, to help the homeless as she did, to love our children and be there for them as she was with hers. Below are some links that, with Justin's permission, I am sharing to help us have a better understanding of Depression and Suicide.
