We are currently working on a project called the AED Scavenger Hunt, which is a collaborative effort with the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Denver Health, Denver 911, Denver EMS and University of Colorado Dept. of Emergency Medicine.

The hunt is aimed at getting children and adults involved in an effort to raise awareness around Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) and to find all of the Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) in the Denver Metro area.  AEDs are easy-to-use devices that can deliver a lifesaving shock to someone whose heart has stopped, which is what happens in a cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death in the U.S., and early defibrillation (or shocking someone’s heart) coupled with CPR is the best way to help a person restart his/her heart and hopefully survive.

The point of the AED Scavenger Hunt is to have people in the Denver metro area (which includes Fort Collins, Boulder) locate and capture information on existing public AEDs in the 9-county Denver Metro area and to bring about awareness of the importance of widespread access to AEDs in the community. By collecting information on lifesaving public AEDs in our community, we will be able to improve public access and availability of AEDs in emergency situations. People can register individually or as a team.

This is also an amazing opportunity to save lives and win awesome prizes (an iPad, Frontier Airlines Bucks, Coor's Brewery Tour for 10 people, Gift Certificates to Mad Greens or the Melting Pot, and many more).   The website is www.aedscavengerhunt.com to learn more and to register. Interested individuals can like the “AED Scavenger Hunt” page on Facebook to follow all the latest action. All of the info is on the website and in these great videos on how and why one should participate (http://youtu.be/GTB2P2NFG6Y ; http://youtu.be/x2L2p9qyvIA ) The contest is the week of June 2-9. We also have a Facebook event page that you can send to your contacts which lists all of the information as well. http://www.facebook.com/events/375593922492557/

We were wondering if you could spread the word about the scavenger hunt to your contacts and join us for the contest?  I have attached a wallet card that you can pass on. Thanks for your help! REGISTER NOW AT www.aedscavengerhunt.com.  Contest launches at Heart and Stroke Walk on June 2nd, and goes through June 9th at midnight.
