Are there how to guides for double-sided printing? I was thinking, if
we can't get all computers switched to automatically printing double-
sided, then I will create some sort of how to guide on printing double-
sided. Just a thought.

A lot of the computers in the library already have little how-to
signs, but if you want to make some, feel free! I'm making signs
already (just writing out by hand) to post around reminding people to
print double sided, to print preview, and to think before they print.
I'm also working on the double-sided printing issue, and it's mostly a
matter of just coordinating between a bunch of different people...

but yeah, if you want to make some signs, the places that definitely
don't have default double-sided printing are the Davis Lab (Miller
Library), the Language Resource Center (4th floor Lovejoy), and
computers that you don't have to log into and are just a 'library
user'.

The default setting on a lot of the computers used to be set to double-sided. I don't know why they changed it but they did. This is especially problematic in Miller where people carelessly print page after page single-sided.

The sign approach is a good one, but I imagine it would be much more effective if we made an infrastructural change. That way people would have to turn off the setting opposed to turning it on.

Someone should talk to the Miller library staff and ask what happened to the settings. Or go right to the source and contact ITS or Computer Services. I COULD do this but I have tons of other susrtainability projects on my plate. So if someone wants to take it on, please do. And let me know if there are any questions.

Thanks
Tucker
