Project: Go Cold Turkey

It's turkey time! This Thanksgiving break, there's a lot you can do to
help the environment. CU EcoReps and EarthCo bring you GoColdTurkey!,
a campaign to reduce Columbia students' carbon footprint and truly
give thanks for what we have.

Just read the pledge below, and send an email to
CUgocol...@gmail.com with your name and the name of your dorm to
sign up! The dorm with the highest percentage of participants will get
a free breakfast courtesy of EarthCo!

Go COLD TURKEY! 10 steps to saving energy

If I'm going home for Thanksgiving, I will:

Turn off all my lights in my dorm
Unplug all my appliances, including my refrigerator, from the wall
sockets and switch off power strips (even when appliances are off,
they use energy)
Close my windows tightly to prevent heat leaks
Turn off heating/air conditioning systems (if possible)
Make sure the faucets are turned off completely in the bathroom and
kitchen, and report any leaks to HAPPY

At home or in the dorms I will:

Turn down my thermostat a few degrees and keep all windows and doors
shut.
Switch my light bulbs from regular incandescent to energy efficient
compact fluorescent light bulbs. Each bulb can save 110 pounds of coal
per year!
Use as few plastic bags as possible when shopping for Turkey Day
Recycle all the bottle, cans, paper products I will use AND, last but
not least...
Turn my computer off at night because it wastes enough energy to laser
print 800 pages, and change my computer to "energy efficient" settings
Pledge to GoColdTurkey! Email CUgocol...@gmail.com with your name
and dorm to win a free breakfast!

LET'S DO IT!
