I found this one with a metal detector back in March of 2005. The
reverse is rotated about 22 degrees and as you can see the date is
missing the 1 in 1866! Any ideas on the value? Also, any information on
how this happened would be appreciated.

Keith:

First of all, that's a cool find; it's probably been undiscovered for
125 years, to boot!

Second, I have no idea on value, but there might be someone on the
Collectors' Universe Forum who can help.

Finally, I think this just might be a fluke, freak coin, as opposed to
a previously-observed error. It may be a 1:5,000,000 kind of coin.

Keep searching,

Thanks Demetrios,

It's the first Indian Cent I have found that has at least looked like
an error. I think I will take it to the next major coin show in our
area and ask ANACS for thier opinion. It's possible it has been
deliberately damaged but if that is the case they did a good job of it
a LONG time ago.

Keith
