See below.  Any opinions?

(We were just about to suggest a compilation of big data and data-related standards to go with this...)

Subject: Status of the NIST Cloud Computing Standards Roadmap Working Group

Dear NIST Cloud Computing Standards Roadmap Working Group Members,

The NIST review of NIST Special Publication 500-291, Version 2, NIST Cloud Computing Standards Roadmap, July 2013, has been completed.  Version 2 is now posted at NIST Cloud Computing Related Publications, NIST Main publication, and NIST Cloud Computing Standards Roadmap (Twiki).  Congratulations to everyone on their successful efforts to develop Version 2.

As discussed during Working Group meetings, Version 2 is intended to be the last one.  This information is intended for use by federal agencies and other stakeholders to help plan their participation in voluntary consensus standards development and related conformity assessment activities, which can help to accelerate the agencies secure adoption of cloud computing.

Please note that the published Version 2 now has only five Recommendations for the federal agencies.  The draft Recommendation 6 on the maintenance of the NIST Inventory of Standards Relevant to Cloud Computing has been removed.  It directed NIST to maintain indefinitely this standards inventory. This standards inventory was an important aid as the July 2011 and July 2013 versions of NIST SP 500-291 were being developed. Is there continuing value for the Working Group members in maintaining this standards inventory?  That will require active contributions from the stakeholders in over twenty SDOs involved with cloud computing standards development.  Please let us know if you have a strong interest in maintaining this standards inventory.  If not, we will make this a historical web page and the NIST Cloud Computing Standards Roadmap Working Group will have completed its tasks.

Best regards,

Annie Sokol and Mike Hogan
Co-chairs, NIST Cloud Computing Standards Roadmap Working Group
