This is an update on Jordan. Some of you may know this, some may not.
Last Monday evening, Jordan was not feeling well. He was acting confused
and disoriented and had a very bad headache. We took him to the ER at
Good Shepherd. They did a CT scan of his head and discovered another
brain tumor. On Sept 17th, he had an MRI and his scan was completely
clear so this
new tumor came as a shock to us.
Jordan was transferred from Good Shepherd to Children's in Dallas by
ambulance. On Tuesday, he had an MRI of his brain to get a better view of
the tumor. The tumor is very large and has branched or fingered into his
brain tissue. It is located in the same place as the first one he had in
June. That one was removed and he then had Cyber Knife Radiation. This
tumor is too embedded into his brain for surgery. He would not survive
the surgery and if by chance he did, he would not be himself ever again
and the tumor would just grow right back. His Oncologist says there is
nothing more they can do for Jordan. He was taken off all chemo
treatments, his radiation treatments were cancelled and we brought him
home on Wednesday night under Hospice Care.
Jordan is slipping away from us very quickly. Each day is like
a
rollercoaster. He has lots of ups and downs. One minute he is lucid and
carries on normal conversations with us, the next he is confused, agitated
and angry. Jordan is on continuous pain meds by IV and gets IV steroids
twice per day to help reduce the swelling in his brain caused by the
tumor.
The doctor says he will probably begin having seizures soon, so they have
already started him on twice per day anti-seizure meds. Another thing we
were told to expect is brain bleeds, which will likely cause strokes.
There is nothing to prevent this from happening.
His oncologist, Dr Leavey, has been so good to us. He has been Jordan's
primary doctor for over 10 years as Jordan has battled this disease. When
he told Jordan that he would die soon from this, it was almost as hard on
him as us. He crawled up in the bed with Jordan and held him and they
both cried for a long
time. We could not ask for a better care provider
who has become our dear friend as well.
We brought Jordan to his sister, Ashley's, home. He has been living here
for the last several months and this is where he calls home. This is
where he chose to come. We have had lots of family and friends in and
out. My mother took a leave of absence from her job to help us take care
of Jordan, my daughter is on a leave of absence for now, and I will be
working from home (Ashley's house) during the next few weeks. I will be
in the office on payroll days and check printing days and to pick things
up. Billy has a few vacation days left and maybe some sick/personal days.
Mason has school and work so we are trying to keep things as normal for
him as we can. Brandon wants so much to be here but he has a family to
support, so he will be here as much as he can and still work. We
are
still trying to figure all of this out. We all want to spend every minute
with Jordan that we can, but we also can't afford to lose our jobs or be
off without pay. We don't know how long Jordan has, but judging by how
fast this tumor is growing and how quickly he is deteriorating, I would
think not more than a few weeks.
Ashley's address is 1205 North Shell in Gladewater if anyone would like to
come visit or anything. Some of you know Jordan, and some don't. The
visits so far have been a real help for us to have someone to talk to and
Jordan has loved seeing people. Having meals brought in has freed us up
to spend more quality time with Jordan as well. People have been asking
what they can do to help. Disposable plates and cups are a big help as
well as meals or money for meals. We have a large family and lots of
visitors have been in and out and will continue
to be.
We appreciate everyone's prayers and support through this very difficult
time,
Lisa
