Romano Instituto – Budapest

Our small foundation’s mission: to help the societal inclusion of Roma in Hungary and internationally by exposing academic and communication argumentative networks. With research and publications, courses and conferences, meetings - to influence the acceptation and dignity of the marginalized, meanwhile to help them to get quality education and their rights and obligation to see assert.

We just published the second book about the struggle of Hungarian Roma during WWII. See the book Kali Trash-Pharrajimos-Samudaripen cover attached.

We are searching for sponsor to be able to publish it in English.

We are members in SZOCSOMA – personal social help for most marginalized Roma in ghettos and send regularly food for those in need.

Meanwhile we organize exhibitions, events and try to influence the educational- policy in Hungary: that’s why Agnes Daroczi is part of those specialist who criticize the content of teaching materials in school-system, and at the same time offering to book writers knowledge and a bearable Roma image with dignity about ourselves… using the book: Vrana mami fairy tales (See the bilingual book cover).

16 May – celebration of Roma Resistance Day - the day of Braveness and Romani Youth (as European Roma Traveller Forum proposed it) nowadays slowly, but surely become worldwide known and remembered. In Hungary we celebrate it in National Theater, based on the initiative of our Romani Organizations (Roma Produkciós Iroda Alapítvány and Romano Instituto).

The art pieces of József FERKOVICS about the persecution of the two nations: the Roma and Jews we exhibited on many places, lastly in a school in Miskolc city. On 21 March FERKOVICS’s new series about the Romani Idols  - most important personalities – roll models - of the Romani Movement in Hungary – was exhibited in community house BALINT and in library of XX. Roma Selfgovernment.

This are just few activities of us – and we did not speak about international activities, working closely with ERTF and participating in the Board of RomArchive project…

Our website is under development, you will be able to buy the folklore collections of Karoly BARI.
