presenting at Div43 APA Convention in Denver - please come by!

Hey y'all,

Anybody going to Denver for the APA convention next week? I'll be presenting at the Hospitality Suite for Div 33 (Society for Couple and Family Psychology), as part of a panel talk titled Integrative Multi-Systemic-Cultural Approaches When Treating Children and Adolescents. I'll be focusing on how we've been able to extend child services limited by state funding via Project Fatherhood, an independent, federally-funded kick ass program with whom I've done a "rotation" during internship this year. Basically, California pays for me to see the kids, while the fed pay for me to see the dads. I'll discuss how this creative combination enriches treatment beyond parent collateral sessions, what it takes to pull it off from a systems angle, and from an activism/advocacy standpoint, I'd like to engage attendees in a discussion about how we need to cut back some of the bureaucracy that gets in the way of doing it this way in the first place, which as clinicians is what we've known has been needed all along. My colleagues will discuss EBPs including Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT, very behaviorist), Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP, very attachment based), and Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), as well as Structural Family Therapy and trauma-informed approaches to community mental health services. So if you're around, come discuss some of the advances and pitfalls in providing high-quality, comprehensive care to the populations we serve, and how to do this while working within our current managed healthcare/Medicaid system (hey, better to have a messed up system than no system at all)--should be dope!
