More than China, India Should Look towards Indonesia

India imagines itself in a discourse about development with China but it’s Indonesia it should be comparing itself to. Culturally and politically, it is much closer to Indonesia than most realise. As Indonesians went to vote in their presidential election in early July, Indians voted in a new government following the general election in May, Pallavi Aiyar contemplated on India from her vantage point in Jakarta, while looking at Indonesia thro' an Indian lens, and finds many little known and fascinating parallels between the two neighbours.

I entirely agree, Indonesia is the largest country in Asean, and as it moves forward its effect on Asean vs. another will be effective. However the China dialogue is crucial too.
