Hi Mike,
I just went out this morning and the Giant Cicada is here, loud and
clear, in College Station.  College Hills subdivision, right off
Thomas Park.  As you said...unmistakable.

Mary's follow up reply to my query about what time it sang:

That was what was so interesting. They were the first thing I heard
at about 6:15 and they stopped after only a few vocalizations. Then
the "regular" or familiar cicadas started and I did not hear the
Giants again. I'll of course continue to listen for them and can note
the time, temp, weather conditions, or whatever you want. It was
about 80 degrees and cloudy, very humid. I copied my message to you
to the local chapter of Texas Master Naturalists, some of whom live in
Robertson, Burleson, and Grimes counties. Maybe you'll get some other
reports.

Also, note this report today from Joe Lapp. I pointed out the sound to
him in the field recently. I don't believe I have any other northern
reports of gigas calling in the morning...

It may have woken me up. I kept hearing this sound, but I must have
been sleeping. I woke up realizing what it was, but unfortunately I
heard only one more call and couldn't even get outside in time to try
to locate it. ~joe
