Dear All,

Seen in the Daily Express online today :

'Bring back our pint' Brexit Britain looking at reinstating Churchill
favourite EU stopped
THE UK Government is considering reinstating a previous favourite of wartime
Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

Pint-sized sparkling wine bottles may return to the UK as the country
continues to free itself of unwanted EU legislation which has stuck around
post-Brexit. The Government is thinking of ending a ban that was introduced
after Britain joined what went on to become the European Union in 1973.

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is continuing a review of EU laws that have
remained on the UK's statute book post-Brexit.

An end to the ban is perhaps something Churchill himself would himself have
welcomed.

He hailed the pint bottle of champagne as the "ideal size", describing it as
"enough for two at lunch and one at dinner".

The wartime leader once said that his wife, Clemmie, thought that a full
bottle was too much for him, but he knew half a bottle was insufficient to
tease his brains.

He remarked that the compromise of the pint "pleases everyone, even the
producer".

NB : The pint in question is the 56-cl Imperial pint (1/8 of a gallon) not
the smaller US pint.
