Let's see if I'm asked to edit (guess that would be strike two)
Still overdue on that converter LOL!
lerici sounds like a chronos apologist.
Ive really gone nuts :)
LOL at it all
daylite beta = far better than chronos
jmho, actual results may vary :)
making excuses for adam
i think the apocolypse is near (sorry for the sp, goe crazy) :)
So to torment myself more, well see my latest post below:
Was able to dl and install Beta 2.
My experience:
-(1) Contacts crashed when I first opened it, but no problem after
that. All my groups and contacts are in line with AB
-(2) Ran the converter. Worked fine, but the process takes bit of time
(okay a really long time). I have a G5 iMac with 1gig of memory.
-(3) The sync that takes place afterward took several hours (about
three or four). It was not until the sync process was complete that the
data and the calendars showed up in iCal.
-(4) I used the Activity Monitor to keep tabs on the sync. I saw data
disappear and reappear depending upon where the sync process was.
-(5) As Adam advised, remember this is Beta software, make multiple
copies before trying this, and don't use it for mission critical data.
I have been as vocal a critic as anyone here. However, this version,
even as Beta, went a long way toward regaining my trust that Chronos
can deliver.
Once Chronos gives us our promised calendar views by the promised
03/31, i can die happy.
Whether I'm able to abandon opportunities and projects as ways to
organize many to-do's, I doubt it. SoHo Notes is better than Daylite's
rather ugly note editor, but that's about it. Daylite could be
improved, and perhaps a strong Chronos can help the folks at
Marketcircle stay on their toes...
I find DL to be very powerful, perhaps a bit of overkill. However,
the stability and Marketcircle's responsiveness are great.
However, I find the following drawbacks:
- (1) Although I love the program, it's a bit of overkill for my needs
- (2) My wife has the larger of the two business (by both volume
and revenue) and she is a bit put off by it - she feels overwhelmed
(although v3 goes a long way toward making things "prettier and
simpler")
- (3) The ability to print labels and envelopes is a joke (although
they release this and promise a powerful engine when it ships).
So, my quandary, stay with DL (time is running out on the 30 day $
back return policy) or Stay with Chronos.
Chronos seems to have really pulled their act together, as you can
tell from my recent posts.
It would have been much easier to decide had this version of SOHO
(v5.1b2) been the original shipping version (or had the called 5.0 -
5.0.5 Beta).
Guess I will get with the boss and make a decision, but, it's not
IMHO clear-cut for DL anymore.
You really can't get into trouble with the KISS principle - so
leaning back toward Chronos. Can also "step up" to DL if business
dictates it.
What are your thoughts?
Regards,
Do you buy more than you need though it is stable, or do you buy a bill
of goods and stable someday maybe promises? MC seems to me to be honest
developers. And they have years head start over Chronos (per Chronos).
Perhaps too bad MC doesn't make what you think you need.
I won't deal with Chronos because they aren't fair with their
customers, even after being given many chances to rectify. I wait for
MC to release a more finished DL. Does the DL beta expire, or are you
running out of time with the 1.9 version??
I purchased Dl v 1.9 as well as the DMI when it did not look like
Chronos would come through. So, right now, both Chronos. and MC have
my $.
I have also been working with MC Beta 3. It has progressed nicely,
and I think this has helped to light a fire under the feet of our
friends out in Utah.
Chronos has made great strides in the last month - I think that MC
has given them a reason to be worried.
What I am up against right now is:
- (1) The 30 day $ back guarantee from MC
- (2) The unsettled state that using all these systems leaves me in and
- (3) The fact that my wife does not like DL (her business is bigger
than mine in both sales and volume) - she says its a bit to powerful
and complicated - although the Beta goes a long way toward smoothing
out those edges.
- (4) Chronos has killed DL - although they lived together fine
until I installed the the most recent SOHO Beta 5.1B2
So, where does that leave me?
I have not have any issues with either Beta version of 5.1, which
allowed me to successfully convert me data out of PO and into SOHO -
which nows syncs without problem into AB and iCal.
- She likes SOHO Contacts better than either AB or DL.
- I like SOHO Notes better than Devonthink - for what I what the
program to do DT is overkill
- Both the wife & I love Print Essentials. And the ability to print
labels etc right now from DL is lacking (although they have promised
quite a bit when the program is shipped)
- SOHO Calendars has started to grow on me - although even Chronos
admits this is the weakest part of the suite. The 31st is right
around the corner - so I am waiting for the promised calendar views.
So, looks like I will hang in there with Chronos, but give them a
very short leash....
Having said that, if they fail to deliver or DL is much better, I
will not hesitate to switch. The days of putting up with vendor
nonsense is over.
Fingers crossed in the meantime :)
LOL as well!
