If anyone is still out there using SOHO Organizer beware. For no reason
it stripped all my contact phones numbers, email adresses, postal
addresses out of my 800 odd database yesterday. All I was left with was
the contact name and strangley the notes.

I didn't notice this had happened until I was finding email addresses
were no longer auto-filling in when trying to type an email. Yes it had
of course stipped all the information out of Address Book as well and
worse still I had done a .Mac sync and this had stipped all the
information from my back up Address book on the .Mac server.

I had this happen many weeks ago when they launched their last last
update shortly before taking down the user forums. Again the only
reason I could re-populate my address book was due to the fact that I
keep a copy Address Book on my laptop but thankfully hadn't sync'd it
for a week or so with my desk-top machine.

This is just plain dangerous as I could very easily have lost several
years of business information. I've seen SOHO Organizer in the Apple
stores in the UK and I feel it should be withdrawn from the shelves as
it's just not safe to use. If Apple don't know they need to.

I wouldn't be surprised if Adam left weeks ago which was why the User
Forums went and Gerry has long since taken to the hills with the cash
he made from selling this crippled product. As soon as I've extracted
all the old contacts out of PO and got them into Address Book I'm
dumping this rubbish product.

It's very strange how we have heard nothing in weeks now from Chronos.
I'm in the UK but if I was over there in Salt Lake city which is where
I believe they were based I'd love to pay their office a visit to see
if anyone is still there.

Anyone out there getting their email problems answered ? I'm posting
this on both Chronos Talk and Mac PIMS.

Hi JR,

I can't believe you are still willing to subject yourself to being
tortured by Chronos.

I'm waiting and hoping for Leopard, and hoping the phone thing and
Leopard will be the reason Apple will offer a PIM as good as and better
than the old Claris Organizer., which I thought was better than Chronos
PO (though GO had advantages).

Sorry to hear of your misery but glad to hear you had a backup (and it
sounds like you should have more).

db (aka Pierre, PM, dancingbrook, etc.)

FYI: Here is where they are at it you ever want to pay them a personal
visit.

Hi JR,
Please listen to DB on this one. I took some advice from him, and was
much happier as a result: stop thinking about what SOHO might be, right
now, it's just not ready for prime-time. I too suffered with the
random deletion of all contacts. It seemed to have no rhyme or reason
when it struck.

He is what I did, forgive the long response:
1) Stopped using SOHO for anything; it might be go one day, but right
now, it can not be trusted.
2) I embraced the KISS principle (once again, thanks to DB).
3) Cleaned up all my contacts and appointments in AB and iCal as SOHO
made a mess of them. Once they were clean, I moved on to number 4
below.
4) I had already purchased Daylight back in January. Daylite plus
their DMI add is the best! Plus, their support board is great! The
developer frequently is their, plus, there are frequent releases. They
have committed to Sync Service in the near future, I seem to remember
before the end of '06, but don't quote me on that.
5) Jon's Phone tool is a great add on to log your calls. It integrates
with Address Book and Daylite, about $26 USD.
5) To replace Notes, I went with DevonThink Pro. They offer a bundle
where you can purchase Pro + Devon Agent for $100 USD. I am now using
DT Pro Office beta, which adds the ability to uses IRIS OCR when you
scan documents in. Plus, you can import emails from Mail, Entourage,
etc. They have a great message board as well, can the developer is
frequently there.
6) For good measure, I added the Missing Sync for my Palm.

It sounds like alot, but Daylite with DMI, JPT plus DT Pro Office,
covers everything. Now:
- I never stress about data loss.
- I can get more things done, my iMac G5 1.6 1.5 Megs memory 80 GB HD
is not constantly maxed out they way SOHO made it.
- I am more focus because I can relax because of the previous items
above. Plus, I am no longer waiting for Chronos to release another
version with the week and month views.
- Remember when they said we would have that before 03/31/06 or for you
JR 31/03/06 :) kidding! But really, i wonder if they will have those
views before the one year anniversary of SOHOs release on 12/15/05?

Sorry for the long note, but it sometimes helps to know you are not
alone. Whatever you do, please do not suffer. The worst choice you
can make is no choice. Daylite and DT have free 30 day trials.
Missing Sync and JPT tool not.

Please let us know how things work out. Happy Holidays!

Best Regards,
Rob
