9 months on and up to Beta 5 there are still a stack of problems with
SOHO Organizer. You'd think that after all this time and massive user
feedback they would have ironed out most of the bugs.

Regretably no, only a week ago I had to download the latest update as
my package would not work unless I did. The next day found none of my
emails would autofill the addresses anymore as you typed ??

On opening SOHO Organiser every single contact had been stripped of
ALL the contact details except for the person's name. You lost Company
Name, addresses, all phone numbers, email addresses, URL's, all notes,
everything ! Of course opening up Apple Address Book revealed the same
total disaster, syncing had made sure the same amount of wrecking had
been done to Address Book too.

This potentially could wreck a business, imagine, all your client data
has just gone, you've just lost everything you ever knew about all your
clients, even who they are. I certainly could not remember all 700 plus
I had.

I am very lucky I keep a back-up copy of Address Book on a
non-networked laptop that I take out. It was not totally up to date but
thank god it was there which enabled me to re-populate my desk machine
Address Book with most of the client data again. I pity anyone who did
not have a back up and there were others on the Forums crying out for
help on this one. We never saw an reply to this problem and today they
have just completely taken down the User Forums going back to and
individual email request for help.

There were an awful lot of problems on that forum not answered and I
thing they just got tossed in the bin plus we no longer will get to see
just what is really going on there anymore.

JR,
I thought it was just being tired.

I was shocked as well, but at this point, not surprised.

This is exactly the reason why I work with Daylite and Devonthink Pro.

These apps, are:
- (1) Infinitely faster
- (2) Much more stable
- (3) Able to commit to and make deadlines

There were three items that finally put the stake in the Chronos heart for me:

(1) I had a serious sync issue on 09/23 that I posted on the forum.  Good thing I didn't wait for an answer
(2) The total lack of progress on the calendar - if I was a big fan of iCal, I probably wouldn't use SOHO
(3) I too suffered from the total deletion of all contacts.  Lucky, I had a backup.  But it really troubles me that they do not seem to have a handle on this yet.

I know that sync services are new, but,..... whatever.

I truly hope they can pull this together.  I'll look in in Chronos from time to time, but I am much happier with he choice I finally made.

Actual results may vary.

Regards,

Rob

It would be nice if there were a way to get a link to this forum to the
Chronos users. I asked Chronos if they would post a link though I doubt
they'll take me up.

Users/consumers are always at a great disadvantage when it comes to
knowledge and access to relevant information.

For those interested, take a look at the great success of the SketchUp
forums. I guess if you have a great product you have no reason to keep
users, even grumpy users, from talking about it. I'd suggest the user
forum had a lot to do with SketchUps success, and perhaps the eventual
demise of Chronos.

I'm afraid Chronos got the basis wrong, and as it took them years to
get it wrong, it will take them at least as long to get it right. But
then again, if you find yourself in the wrong town it's easier to find
the right town than it is to remake the one you're in.

I'm so glad I took the decision in, probably December last year, but
maybe slightly later, to drop SoHo after so much anticipation. I did,
in fact, consider to continue using PO, but it felt tired and difficult
to sync. Still, Daylite has been excellent for me, even though not as
easy and intuitive as PO once was. They do not seem to really
understand how little things make life easier. But it's immensely
powerful, stable, and I'm happy to have lost out on all the troubles...

As soon as Daylite has round trip syncing between Address Book -
Daylite - Address Book I'll be getting my coat on to leave the Chronos
gloom. I'm holding out for this and also to see if Apple bring out a
full blown PIM with Leopard.

That's where I'm at. DayLite appears to be a great app, just more than
your typical user needs (and in some cases less). And the pricing is a
barrier for many folks. Didn't they have a "lite" version at one time,
at a lower price?
