This thread will be about the ways we are applying a biblical world
view (for those of us in a Christian setting) to our technology
lessons. Like a few other threads, post your ideas...share how they
worked (or didn't work) in your classroom. The most important thing
about teaching technology in light of the Bible is for our students to
walk away knowing how to handle all of the garbage that is being hurled
at them from the world, which for them is primarily the Internet.

I am not aware of any books on the subject, but I am certain that
teenagers find it very difficult to remain true to their Christian
convictions while sitting at a computer in cyberspace. For them,
whatever they do online is completely anonymous. Therefore, there is no
pressure to "be themselves".

I also suspect that there is a growing number of teens who do not see
themselves as Christ sees them. They view themselves as not worthy of
love, and are ashamed of who they are. Xanga, myspace, and other social
networking sites, give them a chance to be something other than who
they "think" they are.

Besides the usual "dos" and "dont's" of the internet, I think it is
important to discuss with teens about the fact that we human beings
were created to be social beings, and that being social does not mean
hiding behind a computer screen in blog space and chat rooms. There is
something about "virtual" socializing that is lacking. Not that it is
bad, but that it can't replace the need to be around other people,
interacting with them face to face.

Anyone have other thoughts about this?
