Recently, we had three Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptops donated to the
school.
With a whopping 300 MHz processor, and a full 256 MB RAM and 6 GB HD,
I figured the sky was pretty much not even in view.
But, hope springs eternal. It actually booted from CD, and had a USB
port.
No ethernet, but it had an S-video jack!

I installed Windows 2000 and configured it for automatic login. User
does not
have to enter a username and password. Why? Because the thing is not on
the network, and has only one use.

I went to the Microsoft downloads page and downloaded "Powerpoint
viewer"
onto my USB drive. I then transferred the installer file over to the
laptop's hard
drive. Ran the installer, and *Presto*... we now have laptops that will
hook up
to a TV (that part hasn't been tested yet) in any classroom so that
teachers
can do Powerpoint without having to get on a waiting list for one of
the 3 video
projectors we have at the school.

Thank-you AT&T for giving us your junk.

Anyone else have a "turn straw into gold" story?
