Romans chapter 6 is know as the believers' Emancipation proclamation,
according to a study by Pastor Chuck Swindol. He is basically
asserting that a beleiver is FREE from sin, just as Abraham Lincoln
emancipated (Freed) the slaves. If you read Romans chapter 6 you will
hear statements such as Romans 6:6

"We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the
body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be
enslaved to sin."

I am willing to make an extremely risky statement, we don't have to
sin. We have been freed from sin by our Lord so that sin is no longer
our master. I challenge my brothers and sisters to spend a day without
sinning. You might be wondering, how can this be? is it prideful to
think that we can go a whole day without sinning? may it never be.

You see, if we beleive the bible, then we have to beleive the
declarations of Romans chapter 6. We have been trained to think in
defeated terms and we say things like "afterall we are only human"

Roman chapter 6 is much like many passages in the scriptures that are
in essence a call to righteousness. The Lord declares several times in
the book of Leviticus 19:2 "Speak to all the congregation of the
people of Israel and say to them, You shall be holy, for I the LORD
your God am holy." The Lord is calling us to righteousness and
holiness. How can we who still struggle with the flesh accomplish this
seemingly impossible task?

I would love to see a discussion about Romans chapter 6 and the
challenge to NOT SIN. I triple dog dare you!!!

I think this challenge is great! Like you said, we need to get out of
the mindset that we "are only human" and humans are sinners. Yes we
are, but we were also made a new creation in Christ. Each day we have
a new day to repent and start over. God has called us to righteousness
and has given us this gift through Jesus Christ. We are do daily pick
up the cross and follow Him...

This challenge is not easy though! I believe we sin, even when we
don't know it...but as far as focusing on what we do know, the only
way to get through the day is prayer and knowing scripture. I
encourage everyone to know what you fall short in every day, whether
it is anger, pride, addictions, etc., find some verses that talk about
these things, and memorize them. It is amazing when you recite these
verses in your head, especially when you are starting to feel weak,
how uplifting and calming they make you feel. I also do not picture
myself saying them to me, but KNOW that it is our Almighty, Holy,
Sovereign God that is saying and commanding these things to me.

First I must address the fact that you broke all protocol and went
straight to the triple dog dare. I suppose that was just so we would
have the opportunity to show you an example of Grace. Which, I will
grant you in this instance.

Romans chapter 6 ... Wow ...

As we know from Romans 3 :10-12 "None is righteous, no, not one; no
one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together
they have become worthless no one does good, not even one." Without
God's intervention we could never even begin to try to comprehend such
a challenge. But as Romans 3: 23 promises "for all have sinned and
fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by His grace as a
gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,”. We do not have
to do it alone. Whew!!

Because we have such an incredible God who is so merciful, loving and
forgiving; and because we are such dirt bags from birth, I think it is
too easy to fall on the "crutch"" that we are "only human" and can
never reach such a goal as to NOT SIN that we do not even try. That is
not to say that we freely sin throughout the day. May it never be!
We would never murder, steal, commit adultery but what if that
annoying person is calling for the 10th time this month and we still
have to make dinner, help the kids with their homework … and little
Sally answers the phone do we ever tell her to say we are not there?
OOPS! That one even breaks a commandment. Or how about our attitudes?
Especially as females, of course we often blame it on hormones. But I
am sure when God says “You shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am
holy." in Leviticus that he was fully aware of our hormones.
T
The controlling principle in the life of the believer is that the
reign of grace has set us free from the reign of sin and that
transforms us into the likeness of Christ. And according to Romans
6:18-19 “and having been set free from sin, have become slaves of
righteousness. I am speaking in human terms because of your natural
limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to
impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now
present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to
sanctification.”

I totally agree with Christina that the only way to go through the day
without sin is to pray and to know scripture. We have such an Awesome
God who listens to us all throughout the day. Wow. That is so
incredible! It is so amazing that we do not take total advantage of
that. We should totally monopolize His time and talk with Him all day
and night. We should praise Him and thank Him every time we look at
our beautiful children, the wonders of nature how our bodies amazingly
function with such little effort on our part.

We are a post it note society and we should take advantage of that by
places His word on Post it note throughout our hoses, cars offices.
Place it in our lunch bags our kids or spouses lunch bags.

The cliché “garbage in garbage out is true. We need to watch what we
put into our minds. What are we watching on TV? What are we listening
to on the radio? What are we saying to our friends and family and what
are we allowing them to say to us.
Go through the day without sinning. Have we really tried? I mean
really tried. We really need to monitor our thoughts. I heard a song
recently that said we need to “Think about what we think about” that
is so true. I am thankful that in Christ we are a new creation and
that He is faithful and just to forgive me but I am going to try each
and every day, with His help to be Holy for the Lord my God is Holy.

Now may the Grace of our Sovereign, Holy, All Mighty God be with you!

Christina an Jill, Awesome posts. Although the challenge is not easy,
and seems imposible, it should push us to closer walk with our Lord,
understanding that we have to have a heightend awarness of the things
that concern our Lord. Utlimately having the mind and heart that is
closely in tune with the heart and mind of our Lord.

We have to discard the things in our lives that the Lord wants us to
discard, and hold on to the things He wants us to hold on to. This
requires being in the Word of God regularly, constant prayer, and
having the desire to do God's will and letting go of our will.

A follow up question is this. What should we expect to happen if we
truly were to apply the challenge of Romans 6?

This would be awesome if we all would follow the plan God set up for
us in Romans:6 Dead to Sin Alive in Christ. This is a work in progress
its a 24/7/365 calling. I need to think about this some more. I like
Galatians: 5/16-18 Life by the Spirit: "So I Say, live by the Spirit,
and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature." For sinful
nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is
contrary to the sinful nature." They are in conflect with each other,
so that you do not do what you want." But if you are led by the Spirit
you are not under law."
This is a work in progress Like I say I have to think about this some
more.
