You probably have seen the bumper sticker that says "Jesus is the
Answer," but what is the question?

I am not deminishing the work of our Lord, but it is important to
identify the purpose and mission of God the Son. Many people claim to
know Jesus. People that follow different religions even acknowledge
Him. some say He was a prophet, some say he was a great moral teacher
they even cite the golden rule as the way to live.

What distinguishes true christians from the cult is their answer to
who is Jesus and what is the question that Jesus happens to be the
answer to.

Christians beleive that Jesus is God incarnate. Jesus is 100% God and
100% human. This can only happen with God. Jesus took on a human body
in order to be the Lamb that takes away the sin of the world. All
have
sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and the wages of sin is
death. God's Justice require that someone pays for the sin of human
kind by dying. No ordinary human being can atone for the sin of any
person, since they have their own sin to deal with. Jesus being
perfect, holy, and divine is the only one that can atone for the sin
of another, and in fact for many others, all that are chosen by God
to
be His royal priesthood.

So, If Jesus is the answer, what is the question?

That is a trick question. He is the answer to many questions; not just
one question. Most important, He is the answer to the question "Who is
my Redeemer the Holy and Risen Son of God and Lord of my life"?

Whenever I see that bumper sticker, it just makes sense...I don't
really think about it. I know that Jesus is the answer to everything.
I think that one of life's biggest questions for everyone, is "Why am
I here", or "What is the purpose of my life". Jesus is the answer. The
statement that He is the answer, is very comforting. I would think
that non-Christians would feel encouraged, even if only for a moment
to ponder on what He is the answer to. It is amazing how God can use a
simple bumper sticker, made of paper and glue, to plant a seed.

Christina and Jill, Thank you for getting the ball rolling. Good
discussion. But don't stop there.

Both of you have hit on a similar theme, that is Jesus is all in all
for people who are believers. A.W.Tozer in his book "The Presuit of
God" simply states (my paraphrase) that if we are totally focused on
our relationship with God, there will be a point where everything else
fades into away. The idea is if you have Jesus, what else do you need?
since He is the one we depend upon for every breath we take, every
beat of our heart, and every good thing which can only come from
above.

Let me turn a corner and ask the same question, only this time let's
answer it from the view point of a non-christian.

ok...I actually can remember how I thought and felt about things
before I was a Christian. Honestly, when I would see bumper stickers
then, I would just laugh, ignore, or not think twice about them. The
important thing was though, was that I was seeing the name Jesus.
Whether I knew what he was about or what He was the anwer too...now
that I am a Christian I can only reflect and realize that every single
time I saw and heard these kinds of things, God was there working on
me. Even if you take it from the point of view from a non-Christian
who knows everything there is to know about Jesus, because they had a
good friend who was/is a Christian or were raised in a Christian home
etc. , they will know what Jesus is the answer too, they may laugh
because they do not believe, but God is still using that sticker to
remind them of who He is, and how much He loves them.
Hope this makes sense!

When you think of the answer Jesus is the answer this brings
everything I do and believe in to the front of the room. I believe
with all my fiber that if it is not thru Jesus Christ than what. I go
back to John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and
only Son,that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have
eternal life. That says it all for me.

Great Discussion!!!

There is still something we are not touching upon. The dicussion so
far has focused on how Jesus loves us, how Jesus helps us get through
the day, and how we are compelled to think of something greater than
us and totally amazing.

But you know something, Jesus could do all of these things without the
incarnation. Jill in her post mentioned that Jesus is the redeamer. I
would like to focus the discussion on the redemptive work of Jesus.
Jesus being eternal and pre-existant before the incarnation, could
still offer us love, help, and even grace. However, the redemptive
work requires the incarnation.

Tell my why?

Jesus is one part of the Trinity through the incarnation.
He fullfilled the promise by dying for our past, present
and future sins. He was risen to "guide" us to eternity.

Otherwise, how are we to know that we are saved? We
are saved by the dying of Jesus on the cross and him
rising again.

When on trial before Pilot the question was ask by him to Jesus...."What is
truth?"
Jesus is the answer. He is the only reality that exists and is the as
George was saying sovereign over all. He (God) is only true deity and source
of all existence.

In this world that makes truth relevant to ones own perception, the question
of ultimate reality (truth) has been lost. So that we even have to
ask...what is the question. Sadly Jesus spoke forth, yet was not heard
then, nor now... John 18:37 "In fact, for this reason I was born, and for
this I came into the world, to testify to the truth."

What is truth? Jesus is the answer.

There is a great resource called the Truth Project, put out by Focus
on the Family. It is a 12 week study that delves into this question
very powerfully. This is where I came to the understanding that God
(Jesus Christ) is the source of all truth and reality and that has
implications on every aspect of life as we know it. There is no
sacred and secular seperation...or at least there should not be in our
mind, if we have a biblical understanding of existence.

http://www.thetruthproject.org/ is the link. I encourage everyone to
participate in this project, it revelutionized my thinking by bringing
me back to the Bible and to the centrality of the Lord in His
creation. I we as the church have lost this persepctive of him...and
in so doing have lost the question that is right to ask regarding Him.

In these discussions we are on the right track, and I love seeing
Scripture to help us define Him. For it is His Word he has given to
us to understand who He is.

Keep it up!

Jason
