Ski Trips for Winter 2013-14

So ... now it is about the time to start thinking and planning when and where to go for the winter 2013-14 season.  Please join us if you are interested in one of these trips.  The following lists our tentative plans:

 

 

2013-12 (Christmas) - Jackson Hole Ski Trip with Special Expedition to Yellowstone

Grand Teton in winter is beautiful, and Old Faith in the snow is especially gorgeous.  We will fly to Jackson Hole, ski 2 or 3 days there, visit Yellowstone National Park for 2 or 3 days, and then optionally fly/drive to Alta/Snowbird for 2 or 3 days of skiing.

 

2014-01 (Martin Luther King Day) - Aspen/Snowmass

Fly to Aspen and ski 2 or 3 days for a long weekend.

 

2014-02 (Presidents' Day) - Mammoth and Squaw

Fly to Mammoth Yosemite Airport, ski Mammoth for 2 or 3 days for a long weekend, and then optionally fly/drive to Squaw for 2 or 3 days of skiing.

 

2014-03 - Whistler Blackcomb
Fly to Seattle or Vancouver, drive up to Whistler, ski 3-5 days there, and enjoy the best Hong Kong cuisine in Vancouver.

Dear all,

Last year we used Dropbox to exchange our pictures but Dropbox's free storage space only has 2G and it is too small for video clips. 

Now I found a good news that China's big internet companies such as 百度云盘offer 2T free space and 360云盘 offer 36T free space. So we would have no more problem to store our all skiing/snowboarding pictures/video clips/movies without losing quality. 

I would think China company's cloud service would crash the Dropbox or Box or Google drive or SkyDrive them all.

The actual travel dates have not been decided yet.  If anyone is interested in joining the trips, let me know so that we can figure out better travel dates for everyone.  The following lists our updated plan:

 

2013-12 (12/20-25/2013) (Christmas) - Aspen/Snowmass and Alta/Snowbird

(We can switch this trip with Whistler one if that works better for you.)

 

2014-01 (01/15-21/2014) (MLK Day) - Jackson Hole and Yellowstone

(Ski 3 days, visit Yellowstone 1 day, and take a sled dog tour to a hot spring 1 days.)

 

2014-02 (02/12-17/2014) (Presidents' Day) - Whistler Blackcomb

(Fly to Seattle or Vancouver, drive up to Whistler, ski 3-5 days there, and enjoy the best Hong Kong cuisine in Vancouver.)

 

2014-03 (03/12-18/2014) (Saint Patrick's Day) - Squaw Valley and Mammoth + 1 day Mammoth/Squaw/Heavenly
(Fly to Mammoth Yosemite Airport, ski Mammoth for 2 days, and then drive to Lake Tahoe for 3 days of skiing.)

About 2014-02's Whistler Blackcomb ski trip, we are flexible about the actual travel dates.  It could be:

02/06 - 11 or 12, or

02/12-18

We plan to ski 2 days at Whistler and another 2 days at Blackcomb.  If anyone is interested in joining this trip and/or with different travel dates, please let us know by the end of October 2013 (Thursday).

Also I am recruiting friends to take the Whistler ski trip in February:

Day-1:  Fly to Seattle and get a rental car.  Drive to Whistler (maybe stop by Vancouver for a good seafood lunch/dinner).

Day-2:  Ski Whistler.

Day-3:  Ski Blackcomb.

Day-4:  Ski Whistler.

Day-5:  Ski Blackcomb.

Day-6:  Drive back to Seattle (maybe stop by Vancouver for a good seafood lunch/dinner).  Fly back.

 

I am thinking either 02/06-11 (4 ski days) or 02/12-18 (5 ski days).  We can discuss the travel dates if anyone is interested in this trip.

About Whistler ski trip in February, now we are thinking to make it a 7-day ski trip (with 5 ski days) from 02/12 to 02/18/2014.

We will have a PSIA Level-2 ski instructor as the leader of the trip.  Also, we will be skiing with a CSIA Level-3 ski instructor at Whistler.

One good news that my CSIA Level-3 friend told me just now is about discount lift ticket.  They got some discount lift tickets for us with very good price - $75 per ticket (tax in).  If anyone is interested in taking this trip, please let me know ASAP.

Now we are recruiting friends to go skiing Whistler together.  Whistler has early booking promotion now.  If we book before 11/15/2013, we get 37% off discount.  It is a big save!  February is the best month at Whistler because the price is not that expensive as Christmas to New Year and the snow is deep and dry!  We are thinking to take a 6 or 7 days trip (4 or 5 ski days).  Also we will have two of the best chinese ski instructors (one PSIA Level-2 and one CSIA Level-3) to ski with us.  Please let me know if anyone is interested in joining the trip.

Since we don't have enought people taking the Aspen/Snowmass ski trip in December 2013, I am thinking to organize a ski trip to a PSIA's training at Killington:

 

When - 12/15-21/2013 (5 ski days: 16/17/18/19/20)

Where - Killington, VT (the largest ski resort in eastern America, has 191 trails, 29 lifts (including 3 heated express gondolas), with 3,050 feet vertical drop, 1,215 skiable acres, 88 total miles of trails, and 250" of average annual natural snowfall)

What included - 5-Day lift tickets, 5-day lessons (2 hours each day with a maximum group size of 5 and will be taught by Killington's professional ski/snowboard instructors)

Registration - This PSIA event's official registration deadline is 11/11/2013

 

If anyone is interested in joining this Killngton trip, please let me know ASAP.

Alena - Thanks for sharing that web link.  I know that you have skied Alps many times.  When we start planning Alps ski trips next few years, we will need your travel advice!

Some of my colleague ski or snowboard instructors are trip organizers/leads in a big local ski club.  Their club has thousands of members and has tens of ski trips a season.  They are inviting me to join their ski club, but I appreciate that ...  The reason I stick to our ski club is that I want to make ski trips more affordable and interesting to everyone.  The benefits of taking a ski trip with us include:

1. Our members do not pay any (expensive) membership due at all.

2. We find discount lift tickets and/or deals to share with our people.

3. We do not make any money out from the ski trips.  (We set up the trip plan and explain the deals/discounts, and then you go ahead to book yourselves.)

4. You will be skiing with some PSIA Certified Level-2 ski instructor in the ski trips while you don't need to share his travel cost.  Probably you don't know that all ski clubs (except us) offer the trip leads free trip (air, lodging, lift ticket, and party).  So you can imagine that when you join other groups, you are actually paying a lot more!

真沒勁!  怎麼這個冬季滑雪的人這麼少!  12月本來想去 Aspen 結果找不到人一塊去 ... 前幾天貼出來的帖子改為找人去 Killington 也沒人要去!  現在有新計劃如下:

加拿大華人滑雪網有人主辦耶誕節到年底的大部隊滑雪計劃 ... 滑雪日:  12/22-28 (7 ski days) 主要是滑 VT 的一些著名大雪場 ... 12/21 出發 12/29 回來 ...

我們這裡是不是有人假期太多並且在年底一定要用完?  如果有的話 - 我們一塊去參加他們加拿大華人滑雪網的這個滑雪大計劃!  有興趣的人請速與我聯絡!  (一台車最多只能坐 4 個人 ... 所以想去的人要快報名!)

 

We have a new plan for the end-of-year ski trip:

When - 12/21-29 (7 ski days from 22 to 28)

Where - VT's big ski resorts (e.g., Jay Peak, Smugglers Notch, Boltonvalley,Stowe and Sugarbush) (I am also thinking Stratton.)

There are at least 20 people in this trip, and we will be able to get group discount for lift tickets.  If anyone is interested in joining this trip, please let me know ASAP.  (A car can take at most 4 people ... so you got to act quick.)

The PSIA's official registration deadline for the Snow Pro Jam 5-day event at Killington is 11/27/2013.  I anyone is interested in taking this trip, please let me know by the end of next weekend.  Many friends in our club have taken this trip in the past, and they loved it very much.  The best thing is that you will get 5-day lift tickets, 5-day lessons (2 hours each day with a maximum group size of 5).  They group skiers/snowboaders by the student's level.  In this 5-day event, you will be taught by a top instructor, and you will learn a lot of skills.  It is very helpful for you to sharpen your skills before the season starts.  If you by chance has too many vacation days that need to be used up by the end of year 2013, this trip is a good opportunity for you!

20131222-27 CO + UT Ski Trip

2014-02 Whistler Ski Trip

As you know that we have Jackson Hole Ski Trip (2014-01) and Tahoe Mammoth Ski Trip (2014-03), now I am planning to take a last minute ski trip to Aspen/Snowmass (2 days) and Alta/Snowbird (2 days) from 12/22 to 12/27/2013.  If anyone by chance has too many vacation days that need to be used up by year end, join me to ski the West.  The snow in the West this year is phenomenally great.  Even Whistler in December normally does not have much snow, but this year it gets tons of powder!
