1. The most important thing is a walkie-talkie (with batteries), and
it got to be a Motorola (with sub-channels).
2. Must to have - ski jacket, ski pants, ski gloves, goggle, socks,
sunblock, and lip balm stick.
3. Optional - base layer, helmet (for day), hat (for night walk),
turtleneck/mask, sunblock, camelback, pocket size bottled water,
energy bars, credit card (for renting skis), laptop, (video) camera,
swimsuit (for jacuzzi, i.e., hot tub).
4. Entertainment - some decks of poker cards, some vedio DVDs, ... .
5. Hotpot (pot and burner) - if we want to.
Why a walkie-talkie is a must? Almost everyone in our ski team has a
Motorola walkie-talkie. Cellular phone is useful only if your friends
also bring cellular phones and are willing to answer. In old days,
cellular phones did not receive any signal in most mountains, but now
the coverage is getting better. However, imagine when you are skiing,
some people want to tell you somethin (e.g., their location), and then
how can you stop and answer the phone right away? With walkie-
talkies, people can page around without touching the handset. Most of
the time, the ones get lost or not able to follow our big troop are
those without walkie-talkies.
Why it must be a Motorola walkie-talkie? Because it can set sub-
channels so that we can communicate with our own people without being
interfered by other people on the same major channel.
