📖📚The cycle of life — birth, aging, illness, and death — is a natural part of the human experience. However, many Chinese families still lack sufficient understanding and preparation when it comes to elder care, end-of-life decisions, and estate planning. To help raise awareness and provide valuable information to the community, the CCCTB Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Tampa Bay hosted a “Home, Health & Legacy Planning Seminar” on April 18. The informative event offered attendees practical knowledge and meaningful guidance for the future.

  • The seminar was thoughtfully organized by Chamber Secretary Tracy Lacey, who invited two experienced professionals to speak. Attorney Kit Van Pelt presented on the topic “What Is Estate Planning?” and former Chamber President Yingyi Xu provided Chinese interpretation. Another featured speaker, LeAnn Moore, discussed “The Role and Services of an Aging Life Care Manager,” with interpretation provided by Board Director Jill Xiong. Both speakers delivered professional yet relatable presentations that resonated strongly with the audience.
  • The event was held at the Florida Chinese Cultural Center. CCCTB President Sunny Duann opened the program with a brief welcome speech and introduced the Chamber board members in attendance before the seminar officially began. The atmosphere throughout the event was warm, engaging, and community-oriented.
  • Attorney Van Pelt explained that estate planning is not only for the wealthy, but rather an important legal preparation that everyone should consider. Through proper legal documents, individuals can ensure that their wishes are honored in the event of incapacity or death, including how their assets are distributed and who will be entrusted to handle important matters. Proper planning can also help families avoid unnecessary stress, confusion, and legal disputes in the future.
  • He also introduced several essential estate planning documents, including:
    • A. Advance Directives
      1. Living Will
      2. Designation of Health Care Surrogate
      3. Durable Power of Attorney
    • B. Last Will and Testament
    • C. Revocable Trust
    • D. Further Planning
  • LeAnn Moore serves as an Aging Life Care Manager and is also a CAPS (Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist). She specializes in helping seniors and their families navigate the many challenges of aging and later-life transitions. Her services include decluttering and life organization, connecting clients with state and local senior service agencies, coordinating long-term care resources, estate planning support, professional fiduciary services, daily financial management, guardianship arrangements, in-home care, senior housing recommendations, and relocation assistance. Drawing from years of professional experience, she shared many real-life examples that highlighted the importance of helping seniors age with dignity, safety, and peace of mind.
  • Following the presentations, attendees actively participated in a Q&A session and continued conversations during lunch and networking time. Many participants commented that the seminar provided invaluable legal and practical knowledge, while also reminding everyone of the importance of preparing early for the future. With thoughtful planning, individuals and families can reduce uncertainty and create greater peace of mind for themselves and their loved ones.
