Hi Dave - It's pretty informal here. While there's some debate over the exact rules, in general it's safe to say just have two members vouch for your ability to sustain a QSO at 40 WPM with a good fist (or keyboard as the case may be); enjoy operating; and maintain a good sense of humor. I just saw Ron's recommendation on the list, so it probably won't be long before someone seconds the motion (I'm sending this note to the list as well). At that point I just dig into the spreadsheet, pull the "next to issue" number and you're official -- or as official as anything gets here at the CFO. Then you just wait for me to print and mail CFO certificates, which I say I'll do but never really get around to. Hope to get there one day...
Great to have another upcoming member. The list has been pretty quiet lately and I'm not sure how active the members are on the air at this point, but it's better than it has been in recent years when the (dis)organization seemed to be fading away. There are a vew ops who seem to be fairly active around 7024 to 7030 lately (yourself included) and a few younger ops I know of trying to build speed, so that's very encouraging. Several of us are also active on iCW (internet CW), a net-style CW-over-IP effort led by Chuck AA0HW with excellent results.
As soon as you're "in" we'll get you added to the Google Groups CFO list too.
Let me know if you've got other questions.
Thanks,

Andy (NV1B).. Hello.. My name is Dave, AA3EJ with a question regarding CFO
membership .. I have been having almost daily QRQ chats with Ron, WB2JKL the
past few days and have been going back and forth with him [QSO's] on 40m
7.023 or so QRQ. the past week. I had mentioned to him after talking with
Larry, K1ON several times the CFO wasn't functional (then) but would look
into it again (History now..)
I have since found the CFO web site and also the QRQcw internet site,
have registered. and have my station info there now.

I was inquiring about the CFO membership rules and regs for joining and
obtaining a CFO member #. Ron mentioned that he would make the
recommendation for my membership depending upon the rules and to contact you
as you are the keeper of the records. The guys I have worked on a
semi-regular basis included Larry,k1ON,Steve, N4LQ and Carman, K1LKP, among
others who know me very well.
Thanks, and have a nice holiday,..73's ..[My station pics on QRQcw page also
