They forgot the original IBM Type M with the buckling spring is still being made, in both the full space bar and shortened (standard) space bar, in USB and PS/2 configurations.  Also you can order any language, so if you need a Spanish keyboard with 105 keys and the small space bar they have them - it costs extra but it's a TANK of a keyboard, I have one and I love it.

That's quite the article Carmen. I got halfway through and threw in the towel.

Some of you may remember Bus, K4IX. Linda and I went to see him at this time of year when he was very sick with cancer. This had to be 15 or 20 years ago. We had no idea he would be gone a week later. We also visited Carey, KT4P, while we were in the area.

Anyway, there was a Heathkit keyboard in Bus' estate so I bought it. The thing is bullet proof, both to RF and internal failure. I keep thinking one or two of the keys has to wear out eventually but it just keeps working.

I was part of that gang for a long time too.

Others I had eyeball QSOs with were Ted, K6YN, and Bob, W8IO.

And "Jasper the Radio Cat", of course...

All are Silent Keys now.

You must have been checking in when I had turned off the radio!  I worked K6YN and W8IO often, and Jack W8MZV who also had a magnificent bug fist like the rest.

I remember one day around 1995 I thought I'd never hear W8MZV again and he showed up. He wasn't active during that time but he heard me and checked in. I was going through a terrible personal time where I didn't see three of my four children for twenty-five years, and many other horrible things caused by our crazy Family Courts including false accusations by my insane ex wife who they thought was sane. But I survived, but there were great costs to my children and my life. 

I remember KZ3O or something like that had some "key twisters" like "6 Greek Ships Seeking 55 feet deep water" or something like that. Wished I'd written it down.

Also W4SON WG4T K1WGM YV5NX and others. Great music!

I'm going through the crazy wife thing now. After 51 years she decided she didn't want to be married anymore.

I remember all those guys and many more. I have a birthday list that includes most of them. I'll see if I can find that file and send it along to bring back old memories.

My sympathies. Nothing can tell me the Courts didn't do this intentionally because with abortion of a unborn child of a marriage and no fault divorce from which a person cannot defend, for the first time in thousands of years, a man cannot protect his family to say nothing about the fact that the Court always favors whatever a woman says.  My 3 year old confided in me that she had been raped when I tried to get her medical attention, my wife's attorney knowing full well I had nothing to do with it,  implicated me  it this horrible event, and multiple police covered up for the "alleged" rapist because he was son of one of "the Family" (police family), and police are all about "family first" meaning covering up the crimes of their police family. That attorney (member of the Court admitted all this and the judge did nothing to him as judges also cover up for their "family". Judges no longer obey the law.

Disgusting!

That group is still going.  K4WJ and K6XK are on 3522 and 7020.3 most mornings.  I first discovered them in the mid 1990s on my morning commute into DC.  K4IX, K4WJ, K6XK, K6YN, K8MP,  KT4P,  W1DV, W8IO, and "el Cid" (can't remember his call, he lived in DE) were the regulars I remember.  Had eyeball QSOs with most of them over the years.

One fun visit with Bus.  Dave W1DV and I went down there for FD one summer and Bus dragged us to church on Sunday morning to sing with him in the choir.  We protested that we weren't properly dressed for church but he didn't care.  We wore choir robes over our dirty shorts & T shirts.

John K4WJ used to say that Ted K6YK had a fist "only a mother could love", but he was on the air on his 100th birthday.  Roy and John could understand him just fine, but I always struggled with it.

Joe K8MP and I used to chat /M to /M during the day when we were both working.  That sure made the miles go by more quickly.

Dave N1EA - sorry I missed you on the wire Saturday afternoon.  I'm on sporadically, but often cannot make the Wed or Sat gathering times.  I'm SV on the wire, from SV Tower in Severn MD where I used to live.

Bus had a 2nd class radiotelegraph license, so I told him to bring it with him when he visited me at the pier in Norfolk, VA while I was serving as radio officer on "MV Stella Lykes/WPHZ" I had him call USCG COMMSTA Portsmouth, Virginia on 500 kHz then I switched to 8 MHz and had him call TAMPA RADIO/WPD, Don Berger one of the best operators around answered him immediately, and he just asked "QRU?". Bus was thrilled and I signed the back of his license for him, the only entry he ever had.

Once upon a time in Massachusetts we had a Constitutional Sheriff - not political but directly responsible to the people, but Massachusetts removed criminal jurisdiction so now we have no direct access to the grand jury and the District Attorneys and Attorney General won't investigate judges and clerks who commit crimes. 

If as my friend - the former U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts says is right that I've uncovered criminal activity in ALL three branches of government in  Massachusetts is true then they've completely taken away our self-governance.

I got to meet most of that gang too.

We visited Mike and his family when he was still W3MC, in MD. The four of us had a nice dinner. Mike, I can't remember, is her name Susan?

Mike had a concert in DC while we were in the area. Linda and I attended it and Mike warmed up his trombone by blasting out CQs.

I met ol' Ted, K6YN and his wife Mickie at their home outside of LA. I was working in San Diego for a few weeks so I drove up for a weekend to repair his vertical.

DV-Dave and his wife Jean visited us for dinner at our home in the Columbus area.

I was at IO-Bob's new QTH at the assisted living place. We put up a doublet on the roof of the place and when Bob keyed up, it set off a fire alarm, including a visit from the local fire department. YIKES!

Joe, you have a better memory than I!  That dinner was at least 30 years ago.  Couldn't remember Linda's name....although maybe it's best forgotten now?  Very sorry to read about that.

I would regularly toot a few loud CQs before concerts, hoping to find some hams in the audience.  Did the same thing before rehearsals when I was free lancing in Chicago years ago.  I never got a reply from another player on the gig, but it did amuse my ham friends who were in the audience at concerts.

Jack Rucker often checked in from his VW bug mobile. He was a character, he visited me when I was in port in Port Jefferson, Long Island, NY.

Do you recall a fairly regular member of the K4IX AM 7.020 MHz group, Rick Lindquist / KX4V from VA? Often he was /Motorcycle CW on his Honda Gull Wing, and was Editor of Roanoke Times. (I think he delivered bundles of papers too!)

 

He had other calls before, but KX4V in ~1990-1993 era. Soon after writing his excellent QST article about his ~1992 Motorcycle CW trip from VA to KL7, with his older teen son, he had a couple of ... Editor jobs at QST.

 

He changed to N1RL during his stint at ARRL, then retired to DE as WW3DE. While in DE, he asked me about CFO, as he wasn’t familiar with it. QSB set in, so I’m not sure how much he received.

 

He went back to ARRL, and is now ARRL news editor but from ME. He is a big contester, and a few times teamed up with Bus to work a 2-man SS from DE (which I bet is why he later move to DE, to have a rare state QTH). 

 

I met Rick in person at a Gaithersburg, MD Hamfest, when he set up in a building with his Gull Wing, CW rig / paddle on handlebars, and his open QST article on a table, with other KL7 trip photos.

 

That must have been Spring, 1993.

I get on with Roy and John et. al. from time to time on 40m EARLY in the morning.  Lots of fun.   For some more fun, Wally, K5TO put up an antenna on 20m and we’re brushing up on our QRQ.  I’ve got a lot of brushing to do! 😊  When we ended today, we were up to 70 WPM.  I’m hoping to get back to 80 and 90 like I did in the 80s.  Wally and I are just getting started and today we were on 14.017 around noon Pacific time.  If you aren’t doing anything around that time look for us.  We will be hit and miss until we work out a schedule.
